Finally, a thriller from the French-Canadian cinema,
By A Customer
This review is from: Le Collectionneur (DVD)
Yes, there are a few moments that are predictable in this film, but overall, it was very enjoyable. French-Canadian films tend to stay in the psychological melodrama field, so this is probably the first thriller involving a serial killer to be made in Quebec.Maud Graham, a detective working in the province capital, is investigating crimes involving dismembered bodies. A killer is using body parts in order to recreate his dead mother's body. Meanwhile, Maud Graham opens her home to two street kids, one of whom she has more of a mother-son relationship and who is a male prostitute. So, of course, once she literally challenges the killer in front of the media, things eventually get personal between her and the killer. The youngest of the two street kids is kidnapped and she must stop him from completing his "masterpiece". Everyone in this movie delivers remarkable performances. Maude Guerin as the detective is believable, Laurence Arcouette (from TV's "Tag") is quite impressive and, as usual, Luc Picard steals the show as the creepy serial killer. An innovative movie, when you consider that this is actually a French-Canadian film. Hopefully, more movies involving Christine Brouillet's female hero will come (this is based on one particular novel, out of a few involving Detective Graham). A great thriller that is worth being compared with some of the great thrillers produced by their American neighbors.

Luc Picard rescue the flick,

This review is from: Le Collectionneur (DVD)
Usually, if you red the book, and you liked it, certainly you`ll like the movie. The movie isen`t the same, it`s missing to much thing, one thing tho is that Luc Picard saves this flick from drowning ... Sorry mes québecois, but you`ll have to do much better than this stuff
