I loved Exile on Coldharbour Lane, and this too is a good album. In comparison to Coldharbour, La Peste is their come down album. I'm sure half of their friends OD'd and who knows what else since the release of Coldharbour. The reason I say that is because La Peste seems to have been written in a very dark place, and I don't mean an attic. Although this album is probably a product of a more mature A3, I don't know if that is necessarily a good thing. I happened to like the less serious and no excuse approach of their previous album. If you do not have Exile on Coldharbour Lane, get it. If you do have it, and are considering picking this one up, you will have to adjust, but I believe that overall that this is a worthwhile addition.

where o where did the alabama 3 that i knew and loved so much go?i was a faithful follower of the country tinged house music that earned irvine welsh's approval and was exhibited in such fine form on the Exile album. when i first heard this i was surprised that there was so much music with so little to say. it seems that Alabama 3 has got themselves stuck with no real musical direction in a sort of rock/country/electronic mud puddle. there is a definite difference between 'delicate fusion' and 'muddy, unspectacular music' this album pushes, if not crosses the boundary

Darkness,

La Peste is a much darker album than Exile on Colharbour Lane but grabs you and does not let you go. Too Sick To Pray, Mansion on the Hill, the most awesome version of Hotel California I've ever heard. Wiped the Eagles right on out. I personally like the darkness, they write what they know and experience, reality in your face. As with Exile...there is not a bad cut on the whole album. Do not let these people get away from you.
