But one day, Nicolas overhears a conversation between his parents that leads him to believe that his mother is pregnant. He panics and imagines the worst: soon a little brother will be there who will take up so much space that his parents will no longer have time to take care of him. They'll even go so far as to abandon him in the woods like Tom Thumb...

The world through the eyes of children everywhere!,

This review is from: Le Petit Nicolas (Little Nicholas) (DVD)
Ordered this from Canada as - for shame - not available on dvd in the UK. A real treat of a film, revealing the world through the eyes of a child - the time and place almost immaterial. My wife and I both teach primary (elementary) school kids and the humour, observation, emotions and exploits are spot on. Laughed and cried and laughed again. Excellent.

This review is from: Le Petit Nicolas (Little Nicholas) (DVD)
I had feared that this film, based on the books by the prolific "scenariste" Goscinny (see Asterix, Lucky Luke, Iznogoud) would not be able to deliver the humour, warmth, and innocent worldview of its written progenitors. My fears were unfounded. The idiosyncrasies of the main characters from the books are faithfully reproduced for the silver screen. The film amalgamates several of the short stories and stays true to the gentle pace from the books. It's visually strong and also benefits from the commitment--sans being too hammed-up--of the actors to portraying the foibles, triumphs, and misadventures of a group of young boys and their well-meaning parents. A delight in its own right, but also an homage worthy of the original author.

It was a great story and my whole family loved it. I would recommend anyone of any age to watch it. My kids still talk about it and have gone back and seen it many times over.
