Since he started in 1992 with "J'Evite le Soleil", his debut album, Daran has been considered a promising artist, one that could mix many things, make them his own and get an interesting and entertaining result out of it.
After a strings of good albums that were sadly missing that little spark which makes an album special, Daran returned in 2007 with his 7th album and it's a delight from start to finish.
This time, Jean-Jacques Daran has managed to find the right balance between all the elements he usually uses: a big fat dose of rock and blues, a distinct love for french chanson that can easily be identified in his lyrics and a twist for clever and playful arrangements which makes the difference. And since the songs are better than they're ever been in his repertoire what you get is an album that is both modern and traditional, comfortable and surprising, and which, ultimately turns out to be the best thing Daran has ever released so far.
Now that the album is almost four years old and that I have had plenty of time to weight its merits, I can confidently say those looking for good modern rock that has a progressive feel yet isn't will not be disappointed and, with a drop of "frenchness" added to the mix, it's even more tasty.
One of the best albums released in France in 2007, no doubt about it.
