From School Library Journal
Gr 7-9-Jeremy Martucci thinks that the new girl in school is just another self-involved socialite whose existence is about boys, clothes, and parties. He doesn't know that Laure has a deep, dark secret: her father was involved in drug trafficking and money laundering and then, when caught, committed suicide. She keeps her secret well until Christian Tougas finds out and uses that knowledge to blackmail her into a physical relationship. Jeremy becomes intrigued with Laure's distinctly different behavior out of school and is determined to find out what happened to her. Once he finds out about her past, he arrives at school just in time to face down Christian. Chapters alternate between Laure's story told in the third person and Jeremy's in the first. The use of the two voices keeps this novel from becoming tedious. While the story line may be suspenseful, the relationship between a formerly wealthy girl and a middle-class boy may not invoke any reader identification with the characters, especially since they aren't romantically involved. However, teens who like dramatic situations may enjoy this story.
