My 2 1/2 year old son got this product for Christmas. It's great as far as a child's tablet goes. It's a bit slow to load the games and when cruising the App Store, so I search for apps on Amazon, find what I want, and then go on to the Ultra to download what I've chosen.
It's very durable, has withstood significant falls and bumps as well as drink spills and being carried by the stylet. The stylet is attached to the unit with a small cord which is great for not losing it. The cord is fairly short but definitely long enough for my son to use it on the tablet without being hindered.
The product is very good for the price range. It is certainly slower than an adult's tablet but is far more durable and rugged. To get even a Kindle Fire, the cheapest tablet I could find, and then to buy everything you would need to protect it for a child's use, the Ultra is far more cost effective.
Recently my son broke the headphone jack by being too rough when inserting the headphones, it was his fault and had nothing to do with product inferiority. I contacted LeapPad to find out if I could have it serviced by them so that we didn't break the product further trying to do it ourselves. We ended up getting a free replacement product shipped to our house. Without even asking for it. Their customer support and service is excellent and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another LeapPad product based on this.

my son loves it. He can play it everyday for several hours. The battery can be charged. The only thing I can complain is the application game is expensive.

6 year old has had some fun playing it once we got it up and running which took a while. Plug into computer for better install. Very very slow. Better for younger kids. At least doesn't require parent supervision or help, slow and safe wifi.

I bought my 3 year old a Leap Pad 2 last Christmas and he loved it. This Christmas we decided to "upgrade" to the Ultra to take advantage of the bigger screen, WiFi and apps that grow with kids just to name a few of the advertised improvements. Well, we ended up returning it before the New Year only to buy a real tablet for half the price! It was awful! Initial setup never completed properly via WiFi and there was no way to rest the device and retry the setup process. As a result, in the rare event it actually booted up, it took as much as 5 minutes and when it did it would freeze as soon as we tried to open anything. We ended up returning it and buying a 9” Android tablet for half the price. I created a password protected account without attaching any credit card information to prevent unwanted app downloads. I also customized the page display for my son to only include his apps and adjusted the system settings for use by a child. We downloaded tons of free educational games and kids books. We also bought a Google Play card and have bought great apps and books for a fraction of the price of LeapFrog products. He loves his tablet and can navigate it with ease. If you already have a Leap Pad 2, keep it – forgo the “upgrade”! If not but you’re considering a tablet for your child, save yourself time and money and buy a “real” tablet with a protective shell/skin in the first place. Both my boys have loved their LeapFrog products but LeapFrog really missed the mark on this product!

Bought it for my four year old grandson. His parents are not so enamored with the game "Pet" but as yet have not found a way to eliminate it. Otherwise it is a good sturdy pad that will grow with this young man, as there are lots of great apps to choose from . They are also having difficulty creating the account to order more apps.
My grandson loves it....

I bought this product for my sons birthday. He had never had anything like it before and was really excited. For the first couple of months it was a really good tablet, the apps and games were great and it was very easy to use and little one friendly. A few days ago my son handed it to me and everything was gone, apps, pre loaded info, wifi capability, everything! The worst part is that I actually expected to have a no questions asked replacement from Leapfrog, no the customer service representatives that I spoke to were very unhelpful and if I couldn't repair it myself the best I could hope for is a sticker in the mail to send it to them. In my humble opinion a virtually brand new electronic device that is clearly faulty should be replaced without question. Leapfrog have really di

This learning tablet comes with a few basic applications, but LeapFrog has what feels like hundreds of apps available for purchase online, most of which are for the 4-7 age range. It is rugged, withstanding some minor falls, and it is designed to be shaken vigourously. One negative is that I had to purchase a screen protector since the stylus was scratching the screen.

Note that apps cannot be gifted online in Canada.
