Product Description

Amazon.ca Product Description

At a mere five ounces, the full-size Leatherman Skeletool multi-tool has a stainless steel blade, pliers, bit driver, removable pocket clip and carabineer/bottle opener. The Skeletool is just what you need, and not an ounce more. For the pack you’re bringing in, or the hydration pack you’re peddling, the Skeletool is all function, and none of the fluff, in one good lookin’ package.

From the Manufacturer

Leatherman packs the full-size Skeletool with the tools you're likely to use most often.

Introducing the Brand New Skeletool from Leatherman
Now you're ready to lighten your load and boost your survival skills -- with Leatherman's Skeletool. At a mere 5 ounces the new, full-sized multitool keeps weight and volume to a minimum without sacrificing quality and true functionality, and that's what the Skeletool is all about. Many multitools have multiple options, but they’re often heavier -- and they're loaded with more features than most people actually need on a regular basis. Conversely, pocket knives are light and streamlined, but they render themselves useless when the task calls for a more versatile tool. Enter the new Skeletool platform, offering minimal weight, compact size and endless capabilities. And with the Skeletool's integrated, removable pocket clip, you can easily clip this tool onto a belt, a pack, or a vest -- with no sheath or tote required.

Key User Features
The Skeletool CX has a large knife blade that can be accessed while the tool is closed; to open it, just place your thumb in the thumbhole at the base of the blade and rotate it out until it's fully extended -- which will engage the safety lock. This locking mechanism is noted with a padlock symbol on the tool. To unlock the blade, press the locking mechanism towards the handle until the blade slides past the lock.

Equipped with a universal bit driver, the Skeletool offers real utility options like no other multitool. To change the tool bits, simply unfold the tool and remove the bit from the bit driver -- and pop it out. And replacing bits is just as easy. Just press a new one into position and you're good to go. There's even a spare bit located in the handle side opposite the knife blade. This tool includes the following bits: Phillips #1 and #2, screwdriver 3/16-inch and 1/4-inch.

In the plier jaws you'll find a hard-wire cutter and a regular wire cutter. The regular wire cutter is great for softer grades of wire, but the hard-wire cutter is excellent for heavier jobs -- like cutting and bending fishhooks.

Multitool Capabilities:
The Skeletool keeps it simple -- and light, and compact, and easy to transport. Why waste time with pointless, heavy add-ons when all the basics are right at your fingertips? With its open hardware, skeletal design and hardy appearance, the Skeletool boasts a premium stainless steel blade, pliers, a universal bit driver, and a carabiner/bottle opener ... and that's it.

Key Tech Specs:

  • Length: 4 inches/10 cm closed
  • Weight: 5 ounces/142 grams
  • Materials: Stainless steel, 420HC
  • Included Bits: Phillips #1 and #2, Screwdriver 3/16-inch and 1/4-inch

Leatherman makes a full range of complementary accessories and add-ons for this and other Leatherman products.

Optional Accessories (not included)
Spice up your Skeletool with genuine Leatherman accessories. Options include a bit kit that offers 21 double-ended bits for real versatility. From new belt sheaths to t-shirts and caps, genuine Leatherman accessories are durable, fun and show that you're a part of Leatherman World. With such a wide variety available, it's easy to find just the add-on that's right for you.

Warranty
All Leatherman products are covered by a 25-year limited warranty. If within 25 years from the purchase date of your genuine Leatherman tool you find any defect in material or workmanship, you can count on the manufacturer to make it right with fast warranty service. To obtain warranty service, return your tool to Leatherman Tool Group. Depending on the tool defect, they will decide whether to repair your tool or replace it with a product of equal or greater value. No variations, upgrades or refunds are offered.

The Leatherman Tool Group and its History of Quality
In 1975, Leatherman Tool Group founder Tim Leatherman was inspired by leaky pipes and a cranky car on a budget trip to Europe -- and thus the idea for his first pocket survival tool was conceived. Since then, Leatherman has become an internationally recognized company with hundreds of employees and a wide variety of durable, versatile, stylish products. Created with bold designs and truly rugged construction, Leatherman products are a perfect addition for tool kits, emergency sets, and glove compartments everywhere.

This product is great for everyday usage, and I have found myself always having that boxcutter, pair of pliers or screwdriver right at hand. It is well designed, feels sturdy and the knife is incredibly sharp. Be very careful, as simply touching the blade is nearly enough to cut. Something not featured in the description, the product is rather portable as it is no longer than my phone and no thicker than an inch. For a portable, handy knife and simple tool set, this is the perfect choice at its price (I paid 40). As a side note, the product showed up exactly when it was stated to, something uncommon for many amazon products I've ordered.

I have coveted the Skeletool ever since I first saw it, because of the design aesthetic more than the functionality since I use a Swissarmy Cybertool 41 (which is too heavy to carry in a pants pocket as it wore out one of my pockets and now I just carry it in my bag). The Skeletool has a belt clip which makes the pocket-wear of the Cybertool a moot point.

I paid just under $40 for this Skeletool via Amazon's deal of the week. I would not have bought it otherwise.

I gave this product 4 stars because the workmanship, compared to a Swissarmy knife, was less than perfect: the cutout in the knife blade used to unfold the knife had a slight burr which caused small surface cuts to my thumb; there are also small nicks on a few edges due to mishandling during production.

The instructions on removing the screwdriver bits from the driver could be clearer; the serrated switch needs to be slid back to release the bit.

This model comes with a spare Robertson (square) bit which the Cybertool lacks, so I swapped the flat bit in the holder for the Robertson and the kept the Philips bit in the driver; the flat bit went back into the box.

Overall excellent quality tool

Pros :
Tools open smoothly
Blade is veeeeery sharp, can be deployed without opening the pliers
Liner lock on the blade is reliable
Two exchangeable bit drivers
The holes in the frame make it lighter

Con :
The pliers could be a bit sturdier

I love this tool. It is reliable for everyday tasks. Keep in mind that it is not a full-size Leatherman. If you intend to give the tool a beat-up, you might want to look into the Wave, Charge or such tools. This one is more oriented toward a light, pocket-carry, purposeful tool.

Pros:
Locking blade
Strong Pliers
Useful Carabiner clip which doubles as a bottle opener
Construction is sturdy, and design is slick.

Cons:
Comes with 3 bits, but only 2 fit on the tool. One must be carried along separately, or left at home.
Several drilled holes for aesthetics, but could be used for hexagon bolt cut outs. Would increase the number of tools that the Leatherman could replace.

Summary: The Skeletool easily outdoes my old Swiss army knife for basic out-the-go needs while travelling or being away from my tools. It will be mandatory accessory for when I am away from the house and office.

Lasted 2 years on an oil rig (before it was lost).
No problems. Blade could have came sharper from the factory...
Slightly larger would have been nice.

The review is about the tool....not Amazon.ca which we have found to be a very good merchant. We purchased this tool as a gift for our son, prior to a wilderness trip. After a few weeks of use, it started to rust. The knife was not wet but the weather was very humid. However, his other knifes, one a SOG and the other a Buck, had no rust. We contacted Leatherman who refused to refund our money, or upgrade the knife (we offered to pay the upgrade fee), because they said that rust was not a defect. They offered no solutions. Rust may not be indicative of defect to Leatherman, but it is certainly indicative of an inferior product. We will never buy another Leatherman knife.

Quality is not excellent, but good. I’ve took one star off for slight blade play and another star for blade been not perfectly centered.
The blade play does not have impacts for tool usage; just I have expected more precise assembly and quality control from a company such as Leatherman, especially for the price point.
Other than mentioned flaws tool is functional and performs as expected.

I would recommend this tool when on sale, doesn’t worth full price tag.

I own a Leatherman Wave, so I bought this as a backup/extra tool. It was worth it. It has all the bits that you need, and not alot of extras that you don't use often. Very handy thanks to the carabiner clip it has. Worthy addition to your tool set.
