5.0 out of 5 stars Nice tool, great price Dec 18 2012

I have a number of multi tools. From leatherman I have the surge, sidekick and wingman.

For the price of $32, the sidekick is pretty hard to beat (1/3 of price of the surge). I actually like the wingman better as it is the exact same tool but with scissors rather than saw blade and it can be found for around $26 cdn.

What I really like about the sidekick and wingman is their size and the pocket clip which is like you find on many folding knives. The tool is small enough and slim enough to clip in a pocket and it is comfortable.

It is a solid little tool with the gadgets you might need in a pinch. It is certainly not "heavy duty" like the surge. But because it can clip in the pocket and is light weight, I actually have it with me when needed unlike the surge which normally is left sitting on my dresser because it is too big & heavy to tote around every day.

And let's not forget, for the most part these tools really are gadgets. You are not going to be rebuilding an engine with them but they do save you from running back to the shop every time you need pliers or a knife.

As always, fast shipping and great service from amazon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Useful Dec 16 2012

The most useful tool I own. I carry mine with me at all times. I do not like the case. It really isn't practical. I was able to get a Leatherman belt case from a local sporting goods store. That made all the difference in the world. The tool is solid and well belt and even comes with a pocket clip (practical) and a lanyard loop with a clip (not practical). I really like my new Sidekick.

This is my first multi-tool and I'm sure I've spoiled myself from ever buying anything other than Leatherman. It's feel very solid and has a nice weight. All attachments are exceptional.

Would highly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars First Leatherman - Excellent! Jan. 21 2014

My first multi-tool since my time in the military, they used a Gerber. I must say that the Leatherman didn't just meet expectations, it beat them. Excellent product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Sidekick Jan. 5 2014
By Viper6
Great name for a well built tool. Excellent for hunting, fishing, camping and plenty of other unexpected jobs you encounter day to day. No regrets with this purchase. Confident this tool will be with me for a long time. Pliers hold well, knife is very sharp and has tools that are useful. As others have mentioned the case is not what I was looking for but fits in a pocket well. If you want the Wave, buy it. If you want a great well built tool half the price,
I would not hesitate to buy yourself a Sidekick.

5.0 out of 5 stars Survived the Summer Nov. 27 2013

I work at a fishing lodge and I didn't leave my room without my Sidekick.

I put this tool to a lot of use in 5 months, daily. The only piece that broke was the knife tip and, well, I shouldn't of been using it to pry like that. I would definitely recommend the Sidekick.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not my First Choice Nov. 9 2013
I bought this tool to round out my collection of Leatherman multitools. I was not very excited about it, as it looks to me like a stripped-down Leatherman Wave. The only two tools deployable from the outside are the combination blade and the scissors, and both lock, although there's no reason to lock the scissors. The scissors work reasonably well and appear well-made, like all Leatherman products. The combination blade (smooth and serrated) seems fine, but there's no reason it couldn't have been made about a centimeter longer. The internal tools are mostly good, with the exception of the flat Phillips head screwdriver, and the combination file and flat screwdriver. There's no reason to put a short ruler on one side of the file. It could have easily been put the ruler on the outside of the tool, the way everyone else does. It would be much better to put another type of file on the other side. Particularly useful is the package opener blade, which I wish were found on more multi-tools. None of the internal tools lock, but I doubt it would have been much of a design challenge to add. The leather sheath is awkward and bulky, and not worth using, in my opinion.

I have to say, this tool is a disappointment, even though it is still a very good value for the money. Leatherman seems to have handicapped their otherwise excellent design process in this case; not really necessary when trying to fill a lower price-point in the market. They could have done a better job of building a multi-tool for this price range.
