Product Description

Review

"This is a story about a belief in what's possible, about seizing the moment we are all given and about what truly lives deep inside the heart of a leader - a desire so powerful that no force can block its path. Mike Babcock saw the winning goal long before it was scored. He had to. Leave No Doubt is a chronicle about vision, about effort, teamwork, heartbreak, and destiny. A truth about confronting fear and giving a country a moment in time. Leadership in black and white!" John Furlong, CEO, Vancouver 2010 Olympic & Paralympic Winter Games

"I was inspired by Leave No Doubt in part because everything in it resonated with me. Following your dreams, but with your eyes wide open and with a plan to realize those dreams, is something all of us would do well to hoist aboard. Combining the visionary with the practical, Mikes' points, stories, and lessons are applicable to all. Absolutely and powerfully Canadian." General (Ret.) Rick Hillier

"Leave No Doubt is truly an inspirational read. [Babcock's] views on life, on commitment, on hard work, apply to everybody." Pierre LeBrun, ESPN

I found the books layout and structure quite disjointed but there's lots of tried and true methods and approaches that can be referenced in any life environment that involves commitment, belief and tenacity. As much a self help book as any of the dry tombs attempted by other "successful" people and IMHO quite superior to the first offerings of many high profile business persons.
An enjoyable and easy read with a fair measure of good stuff.

This book could easily be a four star book if it didn't repeat the same things over and over again. We get it, the winter Olympics were important for Canada and Mike's career...it was explained very clearly in the first couple chapters. But the fact the importantance of it kept on being repeated through every chapter bored me as a reader. Other than that, the book contained great information on how bad "doubt" is for the mental system of a human, how we need to get rid of it and chase our dreams. He talks about attitude and how its so important, and how important every step of the way is (preparation to execution to winning to success to reinforcement )

Favourite quotes:
"Attitude makes a difference. And you have the power to choose your attitude every day"

"If you're going to progress, if you're going to excel, you're going to face adversity"

"One of the smartest things you can do as a leader is give yourslef some time to get into the right mindset for a meeting"

"The world needs dream chasers...So go ahead, get out in the world and inspire by doing"

"If you want to be great, be accountable. If you want to be a part of something great, be accountable"

I appreciated the stories of how Mike came up and became what he is now, just by reading the book you can tell he is full of values and strong leadership. Great book for someone looking to get inspired, just wish the Canada vs the world thing didn't have to be repeated every chapter.

Mike Babcock's book is one-part Mike's philosophy on life, one-part a recount of his experiences in the 2010 Olympics, and one-part motivational self-help book. The chapters themselves are independently very interesting but come across as a little disjointed and lacking in cohesion when looked at as a whole. Nevertheless, his approach to his daily life is quite interesting to read and a good model for those looking to read a self-help type of book with a very *slight* dash of hockey added. His recollection of the 2010 Olympics really just serves as a backdrop for him to share his philosophy.

I enjoyed this book. An easy read, but each chapter gave you something to think about. Mike's insight into the game of hockey and the credo developed for the Olympic Men's Hockey Team is something you can take away from the book.

Not what I was hoping for when I bought this book. I was looking for memories and anecdotes from the 2010 Olympic games. There were a few, but it was more of an inspirational speech from Babcock in book format.
