Product Description

Book Description

After completing a first reading of A Course in Miracles, the most challenging read of her life, the author exclaimed, “Never again!” Yet, she knew that if she were to make real progress with her lifelong spiritual quest, she would need a thorough understanding of the Course’s unique thought system. So, back to school she went—the school of life, that is. Though a seasoned seeker, never did she anticipate the dark nights she would encounter along the journey, nor the gift of grace that would pull her through. Readers will delight in the same profound spiritual insight, candour, humour and lively writing style as found in Making Peace with God. This book is a wonderful companion for both new and seasoned students of A Course in Miracles.

5.0 out of 5 stars Journeying from mindlessness to mindfulness, Jan 3 2011

This review is from: Leaving the Desert: Embracing the Simplicity of A Course in Miracles (Paperback)
In Leaving the Desert: Embracing the Simplicity of A Course in Miracles, A Course in Miracles student and teacher Pauline Edward recounts her earnest personal struggle to understand and integrate the spiritual psychology's profound principles in her daily life. By deeply delving into the text, workbook, and related materials while immersing herself in the illuminating work of premier Course teacher, scholar, and original editor Kenneth Wapnick, PhD, Edward absorbs and articulates the Course's unique forgiveness practice that teaches us to heal our minds of the unconscious idea of separation from God that fuels our belief in competing interests and ultimately dooms our relationships.

Pressing through the darkness of her own ego-identification as the Course invites us to do, the author gradually begins to take responsibility for her own peace of mind by cultivating an inner relationship with Jesus, that symbol of the awakened mind the Course uses to lead us home to the one, eternal Love we never truly left. Along the way she confronts her own fear of relinquishing the special identity we all use to push that authentic, all-inclusive and enduring Love away.

Edward does a superb job explaining A Course in Miracle's underlying thought system as well as its unique, transformative forgiveness practice that involves learning to recognize and choose against the ego's case for separate interests while embracing the right mind's vision of unalterable unity. Drawing on both painful and humorous examples from her own experience; she demonstrates the inner work necessary to awaken from the ego's dream of specialness rather than attempting to create a better dream that can never provide lasting solace. Her journey from mindlessness to mindfulness will inspire and motivate anyone longing for a gentler way of relating in this world.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Book!!!!, Dec 13 2010
By Robbie B "Robbie B" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Leaving the Desert: Embracing the Simplicity of A Course in Miracles (Paperback)
I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in A Course in Miracles, or enlightenment. Pauline Edward truly simplifies the message from A Course in Miracles with a clear and loving style. The experience of joining with Love that is our true nature is where this wisdom takes us. Every cornerstone is touched upon to bring the reader to a place of pure understanding of the powerful yet sometimes complicated message within the Course. If you are seeking the truth, or simply looking for a better way, Leaving the Desert won't dissapoint. This book goes all the way!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars For Those Tired of Mirages, Mar 3 2011
By Alex Marchand - Published on Amazon.com
(Continued from my review of Making Peace with God: The Journey of a Course in Miracles Student.)

Although able to stand on its own, Leaving the Desert picks up where Pauline Edward's spiritual journey left off in her previous book Making Peace with God. Leaving the Desert presents an overview of the central themes of A Course in Miracles in the context of the ongoing personal story of the author.

The chapter I most liked (which is to say, the chapter I found the most special) was the chapter on Specialness. That chapter is an excellent exposé of the true nature of specialness. And it is a chapter I am sure to read over many times.

This world is a desert. And a desert is a desert and nothing more. The thing to do with a desert is to leave it. But to do that, you'll certainly want to read this book to help guide you on your way.
