Product Description

When Claire Shaw wakes in a Seattle hospital, she remembers nothing of what has happened to her. She doesn't recognize the concerned faces of her husband and friends. She knows only that she is lucky to be alive, the single surviving victim of a vicious serial killer. She was a mistake - not like the others. She didn't understand. That was obvious now. But she would come to understand. Next time, there would be no escape - and her eyes would fill with that perfect, beautiful terror...On an island isolated from the mainland, Claire has returned to a life she barely knows anymore. A town that feels as if it, too, is hiding something in its dark woods, remote cabins, and chilly smiles. Bit by bit, Claire's memory is taking terrifying shape in a place where fear is very much at home...

4.0 out of 5 stars Loads of fun, July 20 2004
By A Customer
My two summer beach books are this brand new O'Brien and Harry Shannon's terrific mystery "Memorial Day (A Mick Callahan Novel)"
and they both rocked. Kevin O'Brien, with this one, scores with his best work since "Watch Them Die," he is a master of the creepazoid character. Recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars A real page turner, July 17 2004
By
Tina "Tina" (Montreal, Quebec) - See all my reviews
I have been a fan of Kevin O'Brien since the beginning. Although his second to last book left me a little disappointed, Left for Dead has more than made up for it.

A woman wakes up in the hospital with only fragmented memories of how she got there. Suddenly she is surrounded by friends and family, but something is very wrong. Why can't she feel connected to any of them? and where is her son?

In the meantime, a demented serial killer is on the prowl -

This thriller reminds me of the old fashioned "who dunnit". While I have read thousands of these, I could not, honestly, figure out who the guilty party was until the very end.

The writing is wonderfully suggestive, while never giving anything away. The main character is likeable and the pace is fast and never ending.

This is a very good thriller. Buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best yet !!!!!, July 7 2004
I must say, Kevin has outdone himself with this one!!! Once I started it, I could not put it down and finished it over into the night. I love ALL of Kevin's books, but this one had to be the best yet!!! The suspense kept building until I thought it would drive me mad before I finished the book.

Thanks Kevin for the lost sleep - HA HA but thank you for a wonderful read - I have told many people about your books and they are all enjoying them as much as I have! Hurry and get us a new one to keep me from driving the people at Books a Million and Barns and Nobel crazy !!!
