5.0 out of 5 stars adventure to the pedal!, April 15 2004

This review is from: The Legend of Banzai Maguire (2176 Series, Book 1) (Mass Market Paperback)
Romance Readers, you should know going in that romance comes way back at the end of the book. It is secondary element in the plotline. This is an adventure, and it centres on the heroine for the majority of the book. Susan Grant, a former Air Force and commercial pilot, gets to strut her stuff with this slam-bang adventure (The sequel “The Scarlet Empress” is the last of five in the “2176 series” coming in the fall. “Day of Fire” by Kathleen Nance, one of the best books I have read all year is next in-line May 2004). Dorchester is trying a wee bit different line and applause is due for giving some of their best writers a new path to blaze.

I truly enjoyed this book, but think many Romance Readers will be puzzled a bit, until they catch the meter. The Hero in the book shows up only sporadically until the last third. If you know that going in, you can sit back and enjoy this rollercoaster ride.

Bree is a pilot on UN Peacekeeping force in the year 2006. Shot down along with her wingman - wingwoman? - Scarlet, they are taken hostage by a rogue scientist. He puts them in suspended animation, making them lab rats, with the parting words, he would release them at the end of a week. Instead, Bree wakes up in 2176 and the whole world has changed.

Grant's background serves her well in this story, giving Bree a solid foundation. I have read the second in the series by Kathleen Nance, Day of Fire. It you loved Grants book, you will adore Nance's! They are fresh, engaging. Kudos to the writers and publisher for this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Journey Begins..., May 9 2004

This is the story of Bree "Banzai" Maguire and the beginning of a wonderfully written futuristic series by four astronomical authors.

The story begins in the year 2006 where Bree and her wingman (wingWOman in this instance) Cam are preparing for a routine flight. Bree has a feeling of "impending doom" where Cam is concerned but talks herself out of acting on it. As Bree and Cam are flying, they get shot down and captured by a mad scientist, then frozen for 170 yrs.

2176: Bree is awakened by man #1, Ty Armstrong, and then almost immediately stolen by man #2, Prince Kyber, where upon the plot thickens.

Will she Choose Ty, the one who makes her heart pound with excitement everytime she thinks of him, or will she choose Kyber, the one who has protected her and forced her to face her weaknesses since the moment they met? To find out read the book.

I really enjoyed this book. With its action packed story line and the battle over one woman, it is a page turner. Keep Bree in mind because she and the "Shadow Voice" are the keys that keep the other four books melding together.

The ending made one think "I wish the other ones were already out," and leaves you begging for more.

Once again, this is a wonderful and exciting beginning to a new action packed, futuristic series of books.

This series is DEFFINATELY destined for my personal library shelves, in other words, the series is a keeper.

Romance Readers, you should know going in romance is a secondary element in the plot line. I am not trying to spoil this, but want you to read the book with an open mind. This is a new exciting series, a little different, but very exciting. Also, know this is a series of books called "2176", Futuristic and OH SO Good! So if you are looking for something new and exiting, start with the first of five exciting adventure books.

This Futuristic tale centers heavily on the heroine for the majority of the book (and be warned this is PART 1 of the story! Part 2 comes in the Fall, so hang on and enjoy!). Susan Grant, a former Air Force and commercial pilot, gets to strut her stuff with this slam-bang adventure. The sequel "The Scarlet Empress" is the last of five in the "2176 series". "Day of Fire" by Kathleen Nance, one of the best books I have read all year is next in-line May 2004, so buckle up baby and don't pull that ripcord!). Dorchester is trying a wee bit different line and applause is due for giving some of their best writers a new path to blaze.

I truly enjoyed this book, it's exciting, it's original, but have concerns many Romance Readers will be puzzled a bit, until they catch the meter. The Hero in the book shows up only sporadically until the last third, but if you know that going in, you can sit back and enjoy this roller-coaster ride.

Bree "Bonzai" Maguire is a pilot on UN Peacekeeping force in the year 2006. Shot down along with her wingman - wingwoman? - Scarlet, they are taken hostage by a mercenary scientist. Using as them lab rats, he places them in suspended animation, with the parting words he would release them at the end of a week. Instead, Bree wakes up in 2176 and the whole world has changed.

Grant's background serves her well in this story, giving Bree a solid foundation. I have read the second in the series by Kathleen Nance, "Day of Fire". If you loved Grants book, you will adore Nance's, too! They are fresh, engaging. Kudos to the writers and publisher for this series. Hats of to Grant for the whole concept! After reading Grant's and Nance's, I cannot wait for the rest in the series.
