5.0 out of 5 stars Why fix something that wasn't broken? Oct. 28 2003

Having recently moved to France, I have just seen the new version of Legend with Jerry Goldsmith's soundtrack, and thought I was watching the wrong film! I have loved this film since the time I first saw it in the States ages ago - and have been a fan of Tangerine Dream's since the 70's - but, in my humble opinion, the new soundtrack just doesn't work for this film.
Mr. Goldsmith's music certainly is quite lovely, but Tangerine Dream's music captured the essence of the film's story perfectly. To add insult to injury, there's no Bryan Ferry at the end of the new version, and that's one of the best parts of the whole movie and soundtrack!!! That alone makes the new soundtrack quite a letdown, I urge anyone looking for a great ambient soundtrack to buy this version!!!
I realize that directors are allowed their artistic differences with the studios, and firmly believe they should be entitled to issue their own cuts, but they might also remember that fans usually like the work they originally saw and heard.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Etheral Soundtrack June 2 2004
Format:Audio CD
Okay i adore legend i have since i was about 5 years i completely fell in love with the movie in every way. I first watched the us release then i discovered all about the fact there were two versions of legend. Now then i have watched both and while i think the orginal version makes more sense in places iam afraid i do really prefer the us one. I adore the tangerine dream soundtrack from the first flutes at the beginning to the striking momment you first see the unicorns. For me as lovely as gerry goldsmiths score is you just dont get that same gut churning emotion when the unicorns first appear. What i adored about the TD soundtrack was it was so different you felt as though you were lifted into a another world the world of legend and goldsmiths score although fantastic is so typical of what one could expect. I really recommmend that you watch both versions and decide yourself but for me the beautiful pan pipes and haunting sounds of TD will always be my favourite soundtrack ever!

3.0 out of 5 stars To put things Straight Dec 6 2003
By Olivier
Format:Audio CD
I've been reading the reviews for the Tangerine Dream "Legend" CD. Some people seem to gripe over the fact that the T.D soundtrack was replaced in Europe by the Jerry Goldsmith score... On the contrary !!! The original composer hired for Legend WAS Jerry Goldsmith (with whom Ridley Scott had worked on Alien) and this is how the film was first released in Europe in 1985. Then the movie opened in the U.S but in the meantime, some money-hungry producers decided the soundtrack wouldn't appeal to a younger audience ... so they chose to hire Tangerine Dream to make a replacement score... on a completely re-edited film. Having watched & heard the two versions on DVD, there's only one conclusion : the European version of Legend was the best and the meddlings from the producers in the U.S resulted in a muddled U.S. version. This is not to criticize the T.D. score... but please, check out the majestic Jerry Goldsmith one !!! T.D : 3 stars, Jerry Goldsmith : 5 stars !!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally I've found it!! April 24 2005
Format:Audio CD
I fell in love with this movie when I first saw it in the early eighties (in my teens). Then I found out about the soundtrack from a friend a few years later. I wasn't into soundtracks back then, but when I heard it i immediately fell in love with IT. I saw someone call it "ethereal" in nature. I most certainly agree. I love music that takes me far away to fairy-tale lands of mossy green fields/forests and creatures of the mystic world. Tangerine Dream does this for me as well as Yes' Jon Anderson (hello Yes fans everywhere) and Brian Ferry's music to name just a few. So for all these super artists to be on the one album is the cat's meow for me. I lost my copy of Legend years ago and never really got around to trying to find it again until my teen daughter wanted to see the movie. My taped copy is warped from listening to it so much in my teens. I'm sorry to see that Amazon does not have any copies available now that I've finally found it again.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Legend of the Soundtrack... Oct. 10 2003
By Sarah
Format:Audio CD
I find this soundtrack absolutely amazing. It has such a mystical feeling, yet it's also quite dark, and equally eerie. It gives you such a great feeling when listening to it. It sent me into my own world of the Legend. I think it helps you leave this world and be in a place of peace...and unicorns! =P It fits the movie amazingly. I can't say the music is as good as the movie itself...but they couldn't have had a better soundtrack for such a breathtaking movie. Lily was a bit of an idiot touching the unicorn, and me being an avid animal lover, I blamed her for the death of the male...but what can you do when you're naive. Anyways, back to the soundtrack...all I can say is amazing! I would reccommend it to anyone who loves the movie as much as I do!!! TDream is amazing!
