Book Description

May 19 2012 Lemon-Aid: Used Cars & Trucks

U.S. automakers are suddenly awash in profits, and South Koreans and Europeans have gained market shares, while Honda, Nissan, and Toyota have curtailed production following the 2011 tsunami in Japan. Shortages of Japanese new cars and supplier disruptions will likely push used car prices through the roof well into 2012, so what should a savvy buyer do? The all-new Lemon-Aid Used Cars and Trucks 2012-2013 has the answers, including:

  • More vehicles rated, with some redesigned models that don't perform as well as previous iterations downrated.
  • More roof crash-worthiness ratings along with an expanded cross-border shopping guide.
  • A revised summary of safety- and performance-related defects that are likely to affect rated models.
  • More helpful websites listed in the appendix as well as an updated list of the best and worst "beaters" on the market.
  • More "secret" warranties taken from automaker internal service bulletins and memos than ever.

3.0 out of 5 stars Where's my car dude ? May 16 2013

This book doesn't have ratings for many vehicles. Author states there are too many to include all. I'm disappointed. Two or three vehicles I was interested in are not reviewed. Author states if I write to him he can give me reviews for cars not included in this publication. Expensive book and not very satisfied I have to keep researching to find the info.

We always purchase used cars. When it's time to change our vehicle(s), the first thing that we do Is invest in the current edition of 'Lemon-Aid used cars and trucks.'

We advise people to do the same...we learned the hard way when we purchased a Toyota and discovered that the rusting that we were experiencing was a flaw only for the production year of our vehicle. Had we checked 'Lemon-Aid' we would have noted the warning.

2.0 out of 5 stars Lemon-Aid book not what it use to be Mar 8 2013

I was very dissapointed in this book. I have used the Lemon-Aid series in the past when purchasing new and used cars.
The 2012 edition did not meet my expectations. Many vehicles were not mentioned and in general the information in the format provided was very little help. I don't recommend spending any money to purchase this book. You'll find more useful information just browsing on line. They need to go back to individual reviews by each make and model and include all common models.

My husband and I were recently looking for a used car, and we found that this was very helpful in determining which makes, models and years would be worth looking at. Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars SUV reviews
Others have said that there were reviews missing about many SUVs, but that is because there is another yearly edition of the Lemonaid book that reviews SUVs.

2.0 out of 5 stars It was ok but missing vehicles I wanted
It was informative.
However it was missing MANY SUVs that I was in the market for such as BMW W3 and X5. Also missing were GM Acadia to name a few.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
Many recent models are barely or not mentioned or reviewed. One rare or minor issue seems to turn the author against an entire brand; Toyota for example with the accelerator... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars used car shopping
The Lemon Aid books have been very informative over the years, but this latest one has a lot of models missing. Still, it is a good source of information about buying a car.
