Often exploring themes of addiction, sexual power games, and compulsive behavior, Barbet Schroeder's 1983 film Tricheurs is a powerfully impudent look into the world of some rather glamorous gambling addicts. In yet another fascinating role, Bulle Ogier (Discreet Charm of The Bourgeoisie, Maitresse) is cast among a stylish milieu of gamblers on the Portuguese island of Madera. There she becomes involved with a slick gamblers scheme to run the roulette wheel. Tricheurs also features an appearance from the film's cinematographer Robby Muller, long-time Jim Jarmusch DOP and collaborator.

Set on the island of Madeira, Barbet Schroeders's strikingly composed TRICHEURS (Home Vision Entertainment) compellingly explores the seductive horrors of gambling addiction and sexual power games. Is gambling about the thrill of winning or the adrenaline rush of losing and managing to survive. Scary and all too real.
