Product Description

It's nigh on impossible to review a young, indie rock band anymore without referencing their predecessors, their colleagues who have created the anxiety of influence. Here, David Monks' voice, combined with Joshua Hook's compressed-spray on guitar, certainly conjure early Strokes, but then comparisons just fall short. Tokyo Police Club's command of multiple tempos and rhythmic palettes sets up spacey atmospheres to tumble through, with a hefty blast at their beck and call. There's a languid undertow here, Monks pulling you in with a slow, warm-water voice only to let his pals bludgeon you with just-so rhythms that, even in flight, last a sharp, fast two minutes on average. --Andrew Bartlett

5.0 out of 5 stars best 15 minutes on 2006, Aug 16 2007

This review is from: A Lesson In Crime (Audio CD)
I came upon this by the recommendation of my college radio. I will add that I rarely take these recommendations as they usually involve bands who make sporatic animal sounds while breaking glass and hitting various kitchen utensils. Still, I heard a preview on the internet and was hooked. It also helped that this only cost me 8$.

All the tracks on this album are amazing. Their brevity molds them into one amazing 15 minute long journey (7 songs all around 2 minutes long). I don't think I've ever not listened to the entire thing upon starting.

Everything from the cool apocolyptic story, instrumentation and voices in this album are great. The whole thing comes together to be easy for even casual music fans. Nothing elitist ala 5 minutes of distortion in Sonic Youth/V. Underground.

I have trouble comparing them because, in my opinion, they have quite a unique sound. Maybe "Lonesome Crowded west" era modest mouse, but not quite as heavy.

I can't wait until they release a full length album. This is the price of a fast food meal. Get it. Enjoy it. If you don't... Your dumb. But seriously.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic - but not an album!, Feb 7 2007

This is a really fantastic EP. But it's an EP! The other reviewers don't seem to be familiar with the concept of the EP. It's not a full length album! The album's out sometime 2007.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dystopia set to music, Dec 18 2006
By J. Gayle Dotschkal "facebookscholar" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: A Lesson In Crime (Audio CD)
I'm usually a person who likes mellow rock, but this album is just too flawless not to love. The beats are practically addicting, and the lyrics are interesting and thought laden. Definately something to keep you going at your 9-5 job or especially when you're up til 2 writing a paper. It does seem to be overpriced here, but if you're like me, you find your music by other methods. Tokyo Police Club has a unique sound, and is def. worth the money. (They don't sound like imitations of Bloc Party or the Strokes)

4.0 out of 5 stars Great CD, Oct 16 2006
By Samuel DeCroes - Published on Amazon.com

This is definetly a band to look out for. I saw them at some hole in the wall in Baltimore and was hooked. If you like at the drive in and the strokes, odds are, you'll like these guys.
