I am a music lover, not a professional musicologist, but since no one has yet reviewed either of Ottavio Dantone's two stunning CDs of Vivaldi's L'Estro Armonico Op. 3, I feel I have to jump in because they are so incredibly, unbelievably good. These recordings of his violin concertos are simply wonderful, and in many ways a revelation: in them, Vivaldi succeeds in rising to Bach-like heights.
Sorry for the gushing, but if you compare these CDs with other performers' often rather dull recordings of the same music you will see what I mean. And the clarity of the sound is superlative too.
