A captivating blend of Middle East and West, May 23 2010
By Midwest Book Review - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Levantine Indulgence (Audio CD)
Syrian singer Gaida, who studied science as well as music in the U.S. and works as a trained speech therapist with both children and professional vocalists, presents Levantine Indulgence, an original album that showcases her wonderful blend of Arabic melodies and jazz-inspired arrangements. Iraqi-American jazz trumpeter and santoor player Amir ElSaffar collaborates with her on several of the inspired songs; also lending their talents to assorted melodies are Adel Hinawi, Arturo Martinez, and Sarah Silbert. A captivating blend of Middle East and West, Levantine Indulgence is an extraordinary addition to world music collections and highly recommended. The tracks are "Dream" (2:14), "Ammar" (3:43), "Illak Shi" (4:02), "Indulgence" (8:26), "Kaifa Uhibuka" (3:38), "Salam Min Dimashq" (7:00), "Almaya" (3:38), "Ghayeb" (4:54), and "Bint Elbalad" (4:59).
