Product Description

Inspired by the scientific discoveries of real life body language specialist and criminal investigator Dr. Paul Eikman, the police detective series Lie To Me follows Dr. Cal Lightman (Tim Roth) and his special team of experts as assist local police, government agencies, and federal law enforcement in solving some of their most difficult cases. Dr. Lightman can detect a lie simply by studying a person's face, body, voice, and speech. The simplest gesture can tip Dr. Lightman off. He can read every emotion his subjects had thought they kept hidden, from jealousy, to sexual attraction, to resentment. But as helpful as this talent is in his professional life, it often proves a curse in his personal life. As the leader of The Lightman Group, Dr. Lightman presides over a team comprised of gifted psychologist Dr. Gillian Foster (Kelli Williams), who always has a solid grasp on the big picture, lead researcher Eli Loker (Brendan Hines), who despises the human tendency to lie to such a degree that he practices "radical honesty," and agency newcomer Ria Torres, a true natural in the field of deception detection. Together, The Lightman Group can sniff out any lie, and ensure that justice is served even when the culprit is a master manipulator. Features the first series of the show.

Loved this show. Can't wait for Season Two. The main character is utterly fascinating and the screen shots of various actors/politicians/royals caught in lies is amazing. Can't wait for season two!

I heard about this TV Show quite a long time ago and decided to watch the entire series during the holidays 2012. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by the tone and rhythm. The main character - Cal Lightman - is really good and credible. His team is fine but does not add much to the investigations. As for the plots, most episodes are good to very good. Probably the best one is Episode 12 where every actor - especially the psychopath - creates a great intensity. Overall an excellent TV show to watch and to learn from (after all aren't we all exposed to liars in our everyday life?).

I really like the show, and the characters, sometimes Dr.Lightman is such a jerk, but then you see what a decent guy he really is...I really love the relationship between him and his daughter. It would be so hard to be the kid of a person who can always know you are lying.

We were given `lie to me' as a Christmas present and not having heard of it, had no pre-conceptions. As lovers of high quality, excellently written American character-based dramas and the successful, if surprising, integration of British actors in to the genre (as exemplified by House, Life and Flashforward) we were not disappointed by the quality of the writing or by Tim Roth's performance.

There are obvious parallels with the excellent `the Mentalist' with Roth's character being an expert in interpreting micro-expressions and body language but without the lightly comic tongue-in-cheek touch of Simon Baker's character. On the whole, I found the character more one-dimensional and less engaging but I cannot fault the writing or Roth's slightly enigmatic performance. The story-lines are taut and there is just enough under-story to make the series a cohesive item rather than just a series of episodes.

All-in-all, it is a very enjoyable way to while away a few hours when there's nothing worth watching on telly (which is actually most of the time!) although I'm not sure it has the legs to run for many series, as how many times can an interesting variation of the "you're lying and I'm going to catch you out" theme can there be?

Absolutely fascinating, and a well produced series. Held my attention the whole time. Tim Roth is a fine actor in this series and the supporting cast work well together. Camera work and scripts flow well. This type of series is what makes TV potentially great.

Good stocking stuffer, especially season one for those who haven't watched any of it before. Our family could watch it together, trying to learn the facial expressions or whodunit before the others.

The 1st season of this show was the best- later they messed with the plot lines to include more 'personal' details about the characters, and payed less attention to the plots. In the 1st season the plots were clever and even had a few surprises. Quite an entertaining show (at least until they tried to make it m ore 'mainstream' later on. )

I believe this to be an excellent series. It is well acted and reasonably priced, except for season 2, which is overpriced. I would recommend this series to anyone for it's interesting and entertaining content.
