This review is from: Lie To Me: The Complete Second Season (DVD)
At twice the length of season one, I would have been ready to let one or two episodes slide from the quality perspective without effecting the rating of the show, but none did. This season ups the stakes and shows that Dr. Lightman is, in fact, human. Very nicely done. The bonus features as well do not lower the rating. While one or two of the "deleted scenes" could have been missed, the majority of them are extensions of the existing scenes and, as far as I can tell, were only removed dud to time constraints on network television. If they had reinserted the "deleted scenes" into the show (ensuring they are subtitled, of course) I wouldn't have found them out of place at all. (They are also placed on the same disk as the episodes in question, along with the blog entries written by Dr. Ekman [the man who assists with the science of the show an on whom Dr. Lightman is based] for those episodes.) Dr Ekman's blogs are also an interesting read. While I may not agree completely with his findings, and one entry is accidentally put in for two different episodes (making me wonder about some of the references in the entry), it gives you a look at how things go when creative license meets science. Now, as to why I did have to drop this season down a star: 1) The titles of the episodes are not only in the front covers again but disks 1 and 6 both cover up the information. (When those disks are removed, the circle bit that holds the DVDs in place blocks out a full disk full of information and also blurs the other information on that side of the cover.) Simply putting the information below/above the disks in question would have returned that aspect of the disk setup to that of season one, and (considering the quality of the bonus features this time around) would not have been enough to drop a star. 2) They are backtracking some of the time. Season one had an episode referencing the assassin's gaze. So does one of season two's episodes... But another season two episode clearly states that there is no such thing. (If in the Lightman universe there was an assassin's gaze in season one, then that is not only creative licence, but also canon.) [Same with Loker's disappearing "radical honesty", for which they made a bonus feature for.] 3) The issues mentioned above about some of the "deleted scenes" being of no additional use to accent the existing scenes in the episodes (but only one or two failed to do that), and the doubling of Dr. Ekman's blogs. 4) There are commercials on the two of the disks... I can find no relation between Lie to Me and the shows/movies advertised. While only the first issue is enough to have dropped the rating, all four together meant I couldn't give it five-stars.

I enjoyed Lie To Me because it picked my curiosity. When I heard that Season 2 was available for Pre-Order, I did not hesitate to buy it! Learn a bit more on Cal Lightman and his team, all while they take cases and solve them in their own peticular way. If you loved Season 1, picking up Season 2 is a no brainer to add to any collection.
