A Fascinating Premise,
By
This review is from: Life After People S1 (DVD)
I am a fan of post-apocalyptic fiction so was drawn to this scientific series detailing how the world would respond if humans were to disappear. Each installment builds upon the other and beyond the theme of disintegration you are forced to examine man's actual impact and contribution to the earth. In every episode, you witness the epic destruction of iconic structures and buildings, from the Sears Tower to the Sistine Chapel. This includes learning how they were built and why they were so significant. It also tackles the question of what creatures may take our place - what would happen to our pets is particularly interesting. The series suffers from some repetition and pace is an issue but overall a cool premise that is well executed.

Destruction or clean up - you decide,

This review is from: Life After People S1 (DVD)
This is an interesting series. It is a show about how everything that we create eventually crumbles without maintenance. This series is all about what happens if there were no more people around. How would our world fair. Each episode focuses in on a few building or landmarks and shows you how it degrades over time. They always start the day after, then a few days, then a few weeks, then a few years, then decades. A few things surprised me. The power starts going out after 1 day because of a cascading safety shutdowns. And I am also surprised of how quick it all this would happen too. Most places are unrecognisable in 50 years. Also, depends on your point of view, you see the cities collapse into a state of disrepair but you are actually watching the planet recycle and clean up the mess the humans left behind. There are another seasons to this too but...I get the hang of what they are saying and I don't need to watch everything building in the world fall down. Not really explored in the series but you realize that humans are very messy. Lets say in a million years, you would still find stone or metal statues, lots of petrified humans neatly placed in the ground and unnatural concentrations of metals (like iron, silver & gold) if you happen to start mining an old vault. Aliens or a future race would certainly know that we were here.
