Product Description

--Helen Faradji

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible!, Mar 30 2006
By A Customer
This review is from: The Life of David Gale (Widescreen Bilingual Edition) (DVD)
Not only is this film boring and contrived, it actually made me laugh at how poor the writing is. Even the characters' names made me cringe ("Bitsy Bloom"??). Oh and let's not forget the awful ending where a distraught Kate Winslet races through a graveyard to the prison where the "symbolism" basically slaps the audience in the face. And what's the deal with the "mysterious cowboy"?? Please! The script is sloppy and sounds like it was written by a high school student, the characters are contrived and cliche, and they have taken what should have been a truly interesting and controversial examination of the American justice system and made it boring.
*Save yourself the heartache of losing precious moments of your time that could have been better spent at another movie and skip this one.
*Oh, and the one star is only there because you have to put at least one star for the review to be accepted. Trust me, I wanted to put no stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!, Jun 26 2004

TRULY AN AMAZING MOVIE. DAVID GALE IS ON DEATH ROW JUST 4 DAYS AWAY FROM HIS EXECUTION. HE CALLS ON ONE REPORTER, A MS. BITSEY BLOOM, (PLAYED BY KATE WINSLET) TO CONDUCT HIS FINAL INTERVIEW OVER A 3 DAY PERIOD (THE LAST 3 DAYS BEOFRE HIS EXECUTION DAY). AS SHE SPENDS MORE TIME WITH HIM BITSEY STARTS TO THINK THAT MAYBE DAVID REALLY HAS BEEN SET UP AND IS ACTUALLY INNOCENT OF THIS MURDER. SHE RACES AGAINST TIME TO FIND THE EVIDENCE WHICH WILL PROVE HIS INNOCENCE AND SPARE HIS LIFE. WILL SHE MAKE IT? AND WHAT EXACTLY WILL SHE FIND? YOU'LL HAVE TO WATCH IT FOR YOURSELF TO FIND THAT OUT! BUT THIS IS DEFINITELY AN INTENSE AND A VERY EMOTIONAL MOVIE. I HAD IT FIGURED OUT ABOUT MID-WAY THROUGH THE STORY WHICH WAS A LITTLE BIT DISSAPOINTING TO ME BUT IT WAS STILL A GOOD MOVIE. AND IT RAISES SOME INTERSTING QUESTIONS SUCH AS: ARE SOME CAUSES REALLY WORTH DYING FOR? AND SHOULD WE (AS HUMAN BEINGS) HAVE THE RIGHT TO DECIDE WHO LIVES AND WHO DIES? AND WHERE SHOULD WE DRAW THE LINE? LASTLY, WOULD YOU BE WILLING TO DIE FOR SOMETHING YOU BELIEVED IN?

2.0 out of 5 stars too many preposterous twists and the end twist doesn't ring true, May 29 2009

this wasn't the movie i was expecting.i thought it would be clever and
thought provoking.i was half right it.was thought provoking.it tries to
be clever, but only succeeds in being too clever for it's own good.it's
just way too convoluted with ridiculous plot twist after plot twist.the
final plot twist is not logical and comes out of thin air.it's not
predictable,because it doesn't make sense and isn't realistic.it seems
almost tacked on.there are some good dramatic moments and some suspense
here, along with good acting.Kevin Spacey and Kate Winslet are both
fine.as i said, the movie will make you think.it does bring up
relevant, topical issues.but when you get right down to it,it isn't
believable.and that ending sinks it.my vote for the Life Of David Gale
is a 2/5
