Product Description

Album Description

Limited Edition UK-only pressing of the 2006 album from Emma Bunton (AKA Baby Spice) features three bonus tracks: 'Something Tells Me (Something's Gonna Happen', 'Perhaps Perhaps Perhaps' and Por Favour'. Life In Mono is Emma's most honest album to date, an intimate reflection of Emma's life and loves that reveal more than she was ever expecting. Musically it sounds like a rich pop album even at first listen, with rich orchestral backing, gorgeous harmonies and the sort of chorus' Burt Bacharach could be proud of. It moves from the stunningly tender 'All I Need To Know' to cheeky jazz of 'Undressing You' and the luscious Carpenters style of 'I'm Not Crying Over Yesterday's' . Above all it captures Emma's thoroughly modern take on elegant 60's Pop. Universal.

5.0 out of 5 stars A softer shade of Emma Bunton, Jan 12 2007
By Louis (Quebec, Canada) - See all my reviews
(TOP 50 REVIEWER)
"Life in mono", Emma Bunton's long-awaited follow-up to her outstanding "Free me" project, proves once and for all that she has outgrown her Spice Girls days. The album is a tasteful and mature offering of songs that are decidedly adult, subdued and melodic. It has the same "60s British Pop" vibe that made its predecessor so irresistible, and provides an arresting blend of ballads, bossa-nova, swing and pop.

The album kicks off with two highlights: "All I need to know", a beautiful ballad that sets the tone for an album that is decidedly soft and the title track, an elegant and moody midtempo ballad with an intense and memorable melody. In fact, there isn't a weak song on this album; there are many peaks, though, like her uncannily catchy cover of Petula Clark's "Downtown" (which was the first single in the U.K.), effervescent light samba tracks such as "He loves me not" and "Mischevous", "Take me to another town" (which sounds like it could have been included on an Austin Powers soundtrack), the positive and uplifting "Something tells me (something's going to happen)" and the soothing "Perfect strangers". In fact, chances are you'll find yourself humming the album's tracks after one or two listens. It's that good, and let's hope it reaches the ears of those who still appreciate pure pop pleasures. One could argue that the album could use a few more effective upbeat tracks, and indeed there is nothing in here as instantly grabbing as her excellent "Maybe" single; however, this is a minor complaint since Emma Bunton obviously wanted to stay true to the formula while exploring other avenues of the genre.

The current limited edition features four additional tracks, some of which are the album's strongest tracks. I suggest that you purchase the album while this edition is available, it is definitely worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Emma Bunton's Album Life In Mono is the best!!!!, Jan 6 2007
I have always been a huge fan of Emma's in the spice girls and have loved her other solo albums but this one I think is by far the best album she has ever done!!! I can't choose my favorite track because they are all amazing!! Her voice is soft and sweet as always, I would describe her song's on the album as very calm, soft and catchy. Thare are lots of balads and catchy songs on the album. Warning: This is not a dance album at all!!! It is all a very relaxing album. It is a shame that this album is not released in Canada and the U.S,she would sell alot more copies. I can't believe how expensive it is, but I am buying a copy anyways, I don't buy CD's very offten and this is not one to pass up!!!
CANADA AND THE U.S BUY THIS ALBUM NOW, IT'S AMAZING!!!
COME ON, YOU KNOW YOU WANT IT!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Baby No Longer, Jan 1 2007
The third solo album from Emma "Baby Spice" Bunton is by far the best release to date from an ex- Spice Girl. Emma was always the Spice with the most talent and it shows more and more as she grows as a muscian. For those who loved 'Free Me' this album is a must have. Emma really captures the 60's vibe while adding her own modern style. This album truly showcases the talent of a young woman who is really on her way to the top. I only wish that they would release her music in North America b/c I really believe it would do extremely well if given the chance. If you were or still r a Spice Girls fan be sure to order this album. P.S. best song by far - 'Undressing You'
