A picture-packed look at their careers, Aug 19 2004
By Kurt A. Johnson - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Life and Times of the Marx Brothers (Hardcover)
This large and attractive book is an excellent history of the lives and films of the famous Marx Brothers. Beginning with a modest treatment of their early years, the story really hits its strides with the boys' films, giving you an excellent idea of what each film was about and what its strengths and weaknesses are. After that, the book quickly follows them through there declining years and eventual deaths.
Overall, I thought that this was an excellent book. It's not a biography, and if that is what you are looking for, then you must look elsewhere. But, as a look at the Marx's careers, it is very good indeed. The book is crammed full of black-and-white photos, some large enough to fill two pages of this 12"x9" book! Plus, I found the treatment of their careers to be quite interesting and informative. I highly recommend this book to you!
