K-Gr 3-Compact introductions to the lives of artists. Each title has the same approach-13 double-page chapters followed by a concise time line, brief glossary, handy further-reading suggestions, and a list of museums where the paintings can be found. Each book has a full-color or black-and-white photograph, illustration, or example of the artist's style on each page. Sentences are short and clear, for the most part, but there are no pronunciation guides for place names such as Le Havre, the Louvre, and Aix-en-Provence. There is some fictionalizing in Monet. This book is similar to John Malam's Monet (Carolrhoda, 1998). Although not first purchases, these broad overviews are accessible.-Anne Chapman Callaghan, Racine Public Library, WI
