5.0 out of 5 stars Scratchin' My Head April 13 2012
By JTPhoto - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
OK, as normal for me I read the reviews for the books I am interested in prior to forking over the cash. After downloading the Lightroom 4 software, I was anxious to dive into the program.

As I have in the past with my Lightroom versions 2 and 3 I turned first to Coalson's new LR 4 book to jump start my learning. I consider Nat's LR books my Lightroom "Bibles". Maybe it is just me but the way he presents his material in a direct and easy to understand fashion greatly helps me accelerate my learning.

This is when the "Head Scratching' started. I read the Amazon reviews and a couple reviews gave it low points for being "hard to read" and the font being a "light type".

In spite of these comments I bought the book anyway because of how much the first 2 helped me.

I am now wondering if perhaps there are 2 versions of this book because the one I got is extremely easy to read...it feels very "light and airy".

If you are considering buying a book for Lightroom 4, this is it, you will not be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource for Lightroom Users April 12 2012
By R. Cooper - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book is a complete, easy-to-use guide to the recently released Lightroom 4 application for digital photo processing. As a photographer, my priority is to leverage the power of Lightroom 4 to enhance my images, and to do so as efficiently, conveniently and effectively as possible. Lightroom is a complex application, and version 4 is loaded with new features. Coalson's book does a superb job of providing clear, concise and actionable guidance on using all of Lightroom 4's power. It makes my work easier and simplifies much of the technical complexity. I agree entirely with the author's recommendation that the book be used as a hands-on guide to Lightroom. As Coalson suggested, I've had my copy spiral bound, making it much easier to use while at the computer. I find myself consulting the book continuously, as I'm downloading and working on my images. Lightroom 4 is a powerful application, and this book makes it much more usable for photographers of all levels of technical sophistication. Highly recommended.

p.s. I see from some of the other reviews that readers have raised concerns about the legibility of the typeface chosen by the publisher. I've had NO difficulty with legibility, even while using the book next to my computer while editing images in Lightroom.

5.0 out of 5 stars Coalson has another winner! April 26 2012
By SynVis - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
With quite a few changes to Lightroom 4, I knew I needed some sort of reference book. Having used both the Coalson and Kelby LR3 books, I knew that I only wanted Coalson for LR4. His style of writing is much clearer and to the point. None of that tiresome "humor" you get with the other guy!

Some have complained about the book being hard to read. Now, I am 63 and my eyes not as good as they used to be. But still, I don't understand the brouhaha?

Yes, they did use a "lighter" type face and it might be a point smaller. But this has allowed much more room in the book now which is great since Lightroom has added two new Modules.

In any kind of normal light, it is easy to read.

At any rate, grab this book. In just 2 days of random reading, I have learned a lot of good info.

Nat is a passionate writer and goes to great lengths to put out a useful book. He has access to folks at Adobe and understands Lightroom as well as anyone. As a Lightroom instructor, Nat has a valuable perspective on the typical questions and problems for users.

If you are going to just buy one LR4 book, I suggest this is the one!
