Disappointing at best,
By Hayley French (Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lipstick Jungle (Hardcover)
As a fan of Sex and the City, I was excited to re-enter the world of Candace Bushnell's imagination. However, by page 180, I found I cared so little for any of these characters I actually quit reading the book. I can't say how it ended or whether or not the book ever redeemed itself. I somehow doubt it. The names of the characters were frothy with soap opera overtones and so was the story. Meant to be a journey with stylish, powerful women, it became a bumpy ride full of too much style and not enough substance. The real genius behind the writing of Sex and the City came from Michael Patrick King, not Ms. Bushnell. I must confess, had I read Sex and the City, I may never have turned the TV show on. Thank God I didn't. If you want a pointless read, mind numbing enough to put you to sleep, this is the book for you. If you're looking for a tight page-turner with unforgettable characters I'm afraid you'll have to keep looking.

Oscars in the Summer!?,
By
This review is from: Lipstick Jungle (Hardcover)
Having read Bushnell's first three books (and having loved them all), I was eager to read her latest novel and bought it the day it was released. I wouldn't say the book was awful but it was incredibly mediocre, with boring characters and, in my opinion, cheesy writing. But what I found most interesting (NOT in a good way) was that Bushnell had the Oscar nominations announced in early April (the Oscar nominees are announced either late January or early February) and the actual ceremony taking place in the summer?! As we know, the Oscars typically take place in late February or early March. I found it quite odd that Bushnell would miss that? Anyway, that is my cheap two cents. Happy Reading!! :-)

Good Risque and Racy Fun,

I rally loved this book as it covers that whole 'what should I do with my life' syndrome. The characters are sublime and for the fist time I feel good about myself after empathising with the struggles us women go through. Just Great (If you like this also try The Other Woman by Jane Green or You Are Here by Steve Horsfall)
