Product Description

Review

"A must-read for anyone feeling mid-life dissatisfaction, mid-life depression . . . Clow's ideas can help avoid costly and unnecessary mistakes often caused by misinterpretation of a natural process of evolution. Clow heals by explaining deeper spiritual reasons for seemingly physical urges. She takes away feelings of isolation and bewilderment by comfortingly "patterning" crisis into a more understandable and tolerable package."
(Spirit of Change)

"Clow presents a new theory that connects astrology, kundalini, and human development from the personal to the cosmic level."
(Rhea A. White, Exceptional Human Experience Network)

"Liquid Light of Sex is a beacon in the darkness for anyone who is struggling through a mid-life crisis and is wise enough to recognize the spiritual dimensions of the experience. . . . Barbara Hand Clow brings astrology into the field of energy medicine where it belongs [and] restores eros to its rightful place as a vital and healthy part of the divinity we call self."
(Michael Talbot, author of The Holographic Universe)

". . . completely unravels the effects of mid-life crisis . . . puts astronomy in a new light, poses interesting questions about our relationship to the rest of the universe, and provides interesting postulations about the transformations that occur in humans."
(Whole Life Times)

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful By a reader from New York on Nov. 21 2003
Format: Paperback
This book describes and helps validate the changes and experiences undergone at mid-life by many individuals. She gives advice for men and women on how to handle the need for inner change and growth while preserving their relationships intact in most instances. While sharing her caution and respect for the rising of kundalini energy, and her view that it should not be forced to arise at an improper time, I do not agree that one always needs to wait until age 36 or so to let this energy begin to awaken. Damming and smothering the flow of kundalini energy when it is trying to rise at any time can have unfortunate effects as well, I believe. Use of certain meditation techniques and physical disciplines like Kundalini Yoga can help to make this awakening safe and smoother when it does occur. Unfortunately, the subject of kundalini awakening has been neglected by western science and astrology, so this book is performing a valuable service by acknowledging the phenomenon and giving helpful advice on how to handle the experience. I believe that just reading that many other people have had similar experiences can help a person to feel better about themselves and not just think they are "going crazy." When I first experienced kundalini rising, I had no one to talk to about the phenomenon, and I only realized years later that other people had these experiences of the feeling of energy flowing in the body as well.
I found the sections in this book on the astrological houses and the polarities they represent to be particularly helpful and inspiring. I found the updated material on Saturn at the end of the book to be helpful as well in describing and plotting phases of one's career and life.

Spiritual Astrology for Life Passages Nov. 21 2003

I found the sections in this book on the astrological houses and the polarities they represent to be particularly helpful and inspiring. I found the updated material on Saturn at the end of the book to be helpful as well in describing and plotting phases of one's career and life. In addition, Barbara brings in material on the cycles of Chiron, the heavenly body discovered in our solar system in 1977, and its return to its original position in our natal charts at age fifty. I found this material on Chiron, the wounded healer and ruler of many New Age techniques and modalities, to be so intriguing and moving, and to have so much resonance in my own life experience, that I have bought her book on Chiron and have started to read it as well. Her chapter on Global Shamanism near the end of the book helps tie the experiences of the individual in with the journey of society as a whole and helps to postulate some remedies for current problems of society. I do wish there had been more material on the planet Neptune and its transits at midlife as well. She also does not talk about the planets in the various signs, and transits of the outer planets to other planets in the natal chart, probably due to space restrictions and to the fact that this book was written for a general audience, not just for astologers and those interested in astrology. Therefore, the timing and character of certain events might be a little different for some people due to other factors in their individual charts not examined here. It would be helpful to the reader to get their chart done after reading this book to further personalize Barbara's findings. Also, books like Jeff Green's book on Pluto, or Bil Tierney's "Alive and Well" books on the outer planets could help expand the knowledge of the reader even further. Overall, this book is an excellent beginning to anyone wanting to examine the subject of mid-life crisis from a spiritual point of view.

a great help! Oct. 6 2007

three monthes after my 40th birthday i was reeling with incomprehension. i had turned into some kind of dr.jeckyll and mr. hyde. the morning after a totally unsatifying $150 session with a respected astrologer, my copy of this book arrived from amazon. for $12(!) this book explained to me what was going on, why, what i could do about it, and showed me a promising path of spiritual unfoldment where i had begun to expect imminent insanity and a sad slow demise.

i've been experiencing kundalini awakening and following my own astrological transits for ten years, but it took barbara hand clow to show me what was right in front of my face in terms of mid-life. now instead of confusion and fear, i have calmed down, recommitted to disciplined spiritual practice, and i feel on track again. this book is a wonder of clarity and help. her other books are great too.

I'm 51 now. I've been watching people grow for 20 years in my practice. This woman, Barbara Hand Clow, has it DOWN about the big transitions that create a true human being. She's also an astute and intuitive astrologer, and you'll pick up some insights there, too.

An explanation for slowing down ageing and an opportunity for natural rejuvenation Aug. 9 2012
By Dr Ana Garcia PhD, DTM - Author, Public Speaking Coach. - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
People ask me how old I am when they meet me and invariably, I say 47 and they ask "Did you say 37?" When I repeat my age they conclude that I have very good genes.

However, and besides having good genes for maybe skin and longevity, which runs on both sides of my family, I have another theory, which I couldn't prove until I read "Liquid Light of Sex - Kundalini, Astrology and The Key Life Passages" from Barbara Hand Clow.

I have worked heavily at waking up since my divorce in 1996 and in this time, I have transitioned myself from a lost individual with failed relationships and a complete lack of vision for my future or even of my God given gifts, to someone with an intense burning fire in my heart to help people rise their consciousness and become empowered with their own natural light.

Barbara describes the passage of the Kundalini rising at a specific time in your birth chart according to the passage of specific planets in our constellation, and with this opportunity to awaken and take on our power, we also have the choice of not working with this amazing cleansing natural energy and simply start aging... fast.

And this is what she says: "Our tired old people are imprisoned in pained bodies with Zeus as their medical doctor. The resolution of this dilemma lies in each person's n growth as a healer, beyond being wounded or wounding others - gong beyond the body's life as a limit on the essential self". Which is in a nutshell what happened to me - my wounded healer was born.
"We cannot learn to heal others until we have healed ourselves, and so first we must be wounded, just as Chiron was poisoned in his left heel by an arrow" and "pain can be released only by acknowledging its presence and agreeing to discover its source and then release it".

However: "At Chiron Return, we are prone to illness and bitterness if at Uranus Opposition we have not cleared our emotional bodies of anger and frustration over early wounding. But if we have had a successful resolution of mid-life crisis, our bodies will have sufficient transformative kundalini energy to help us face the greater and deeper challenges of emotional clearing during our forties".

Next time someone asks me my age again, I now have an answer: I worked with my kundalini in its spontaneous journey up my spine to clear my own limitations, old beliefs and patterns, and allowed myself the maiden voyage, just like the eagle does.
When it is 40 years old, the eagle goes up into the highest mountain alone, pulls out its talons, feathers and hits its peak against the rock until it falls off, because its claws are too hardened to hunt. Then, from this fortress of isolation and this position of vulnerability, it waits for it all to grow again. When it does, the eagle flies renewed and strengthened and with it, it gives itself another 40 years of rejuvenated life.

Our kundalini spontaneously rising is the human equivalent to the eagle's maiden voyage. It is obviously inserted in our DNA blueprint in a kind of time-released capsule, in order to allow us for further evolution by means of buying us health, strength and wisdom for the second half of our human life. That is, if we are prepared to dive into our pain and disclose the amazing wonders that surrendering to this liquid light of sex may catapult us into.

Great Book If You are Interested in Theories of Kundalini and Mid-Life Feb. 18 2010
By L. Erickson - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
I am not an astrologer, although I am familiar with basic astrology. I came to this book because of my interest in chakra and kundalini meditation, ('liquid light of sex' is a phrase sometimes used to describe kundalini, or the spiritual life force.) In these traditions, the kundalini is consciously moved up the chakras in a phased fashion, resulting in progressively more intense spiritual opening and experiences, although individuals might also have these experiences spontaneously. In this book, the author explores how Uranus is linked to the kundalini, and how Uranus transits, particularly the Uranus opposition of mid-life, can trigger intense kundalini surges. Depending on an individual's past work on their energy and psychological blocks, as well as any past experience they do or don't have working with their own kundalini, they might experience this as very difficult or simply transformational. The author also includes information on the Saturn return of the late 20s and the Chiron return of the early 50s, both key personal growth transits related to the kundalini energy as well.

For all of these transits, she provides a lot of case studies from her own client experience. Even though I don't work as an astrologer, I found all of this very accessible and fascinating. Overall, a wonderful, unique book for anyone interested in astrology or kundalini.
