As a raw foodist, I was looking foward to receiving a book with NEW recipes in it. A great deal of the recipes are not from this author but from other authors. She even lists the author and the book it is in. I have a large raw "un"cookbook collection so I already have most of these recipes. I feel this should have been disclosed in the summary of this book because then I would not have purchased it. Extremely disappointing, I feel cheated and deceived and that I totally wasted my money.

Although I have not tried any of these recipes yet (just got the book today), I have read through the book from cover to cover and there are some very basic recipes to be sure but there are many of the juices, smoothies, and soup recipe contributions I am looking forward to trying. If you are into raw food nutrition I don't see how you could go wrong in adding this book to your collection.

Update: Tried the Strawberry-Pear-Cucumber Smoothie, Down on the Bayou Smoothie, and Green Goodness Smoothie; Chocolate-Cherry Shake, Cleanse Fast Drink and Liver Cleanse Drink (they really cleanse); Watermelon Juice, Sweet Peach Juice, and Raspberry Salad Dressing and they all are worth adding to your recipe file.

Raw Food-Liquid Raw and Raw Food Made Easy for 1 or 2 People are IMO two books I am glad to have on my kitchen bookshelf.

I was excited to read this book, which I managed to find in e-book format at my local public library. I was psyched for some new recipes to use with my Vitamix. I am an avid green smoother drinker/maker and was curious about other possible recipes to try with my blender. While the recipes are just fine, and I will ultimately use this book's resources, something really irked me.

On one of the first pages, there is a reference to a "Dr. Lorraine Day" who opted out of surgery and chemotherapy, and attributes her survival from breast cancer to her change in diet and lifestyle. More research on this doctor will reveal criticism by those in the health care profession, several holes in her story, and lack of proper documentation. I think it is inappropriate for Lisa Montgomery, the author of this book, to reference this doctor that many have deemed a "quack" and to quickly attribute her own recovery as well as that of Dr. Day's to diet changes.

Although I wholeheartedly believe that diet determines our health and can have cancer-preventing properties, curing cancer is a whole different story. It was an irresponsible decision for Montgomery to share her own personal story in the way that she did. She says that she found a lump, decided to NOT even SEE a doctor, and then drink wheatgrass to try to get well. While she has a right to share her own stories, she must remember that others may do as she says, and refuse to see a medical doctor, or any medical professional, and take matters into their own hands. She did not even bother to elaborate on her own personal success story -- leaving us no choice but to accept her conclusion. More natural, holistic approaches are great. I am all for them. But we must also find a balance. We cannot advocate refusing to see a medical professional when symptoms of a potentially serious illness arise.
