This 79-minute disc documents Rammstein's live shows from mid-1998. The band's performances include powerful theatrics and pyrotechnics (lead singer Till Lindemann even sets himself on fire), but even without the aid of visuals, this CD is a faithful representation of their explosive energy. Songs "Rammstein" and "Sehnsucht" receive appropriately raw and straightforward readings, while "Bueck Dich" comes gloriously alive with audience interaction and additional electronic rhythms. Also benefiting from the fiery live setting are "Du Hast" and the beautifully mournful "Engel," where the audience enthusiastically joins in on choruses. Aggressive drama is the most obvious feature of this recording, but quieter moments such as "Wilder Wein" provide effective dynamics and pacing. Flake's creative keyboard work, one of Rammstein's most distinguishing features, is generally more prominent in these live versions. The guitar licks of Richard Kruspe and Paul Landers are thick and tight, while drummer Christoph Schneider thrashes away with loose precision. --Mark McCleerey

Ce double live de Rammstein dans sa ville d'origine est imposant. Ultrasoudé et faisant preuve d'une précision mécanique, le sextette allemand exécute son répertoire indus-metal dans l'ordre et la méthode. Le groupe joue lourd, appesantissant rythmiques et guitares quand le clavier s'amuse à survoler le tout à l'aide de sons d'outre-rock gothique. Le lien avec Front 242 ou Ministry est clairement audible, mais Rammstein est unique dans cette façon de coller une claque à chaque accord. Peut-être parce qu'il entreprend ce live comme s'il devait apprendre son métier à un marteau-pilon. Le chant en allemand par un ex- nageur de l'équipe olympique d'Allemagne de l'Est doit y être pour quelque chose. Mais qu'on ne s'y trompe pas : il s'agit là d'un groupe thrash- techno-gothique à son sommet. --Florian Pittion

"Ich war dort" means I was there and it was the most amazing thing in my life to see those 6 musicians play. I was in the front row and I can tell you that the energy of the crowd is perfectly placed into the album. This is a helpful list of the best songs and why.

Spiel Mit Mir- I usually skip over but it's still good.

Bestrafe Mich- Not only do I love the name of the song but Till's deep voice really comes out in this.

Weißes Fleisch- This was the song considered by many to be Nazi because it's translated to "White Flesh"...SHUT UP! Rammstein is everything but Nazi, the song's just about Sex but it's definetly one of the best.

Sehnsucht- Lyrics ae odd but the riff is wicked.

Asche Zu Asche- Very good fast-paced beat.

Wilder Wein- DIES IST SO, SO GUT. A slow song on the album made the concert twice as magical.

Heirate Mich- Always one of my favorites and I loved the part when they let the crowd sing the main chorus.

Du riechst so gut- The introduction was the coolest thing I'd ever seen. Bottle rockets shooting in the air precisely when the music started.

Du Hast- probably the only song people outside of Germany, know of Rammstein. Classic but I didn't like the live version as much as the Sehnsucht one.

Bück dich- This is the best song on the album for a few reasons. I'm a pervert and Bück dich means Bend down(I'm German ;)and also the riff can not be matched. The sound was so loud and fast it felt like an orgy towards the end.

Engel- I love the singing of Bobo and like Wilder Wein, nice slow one.

Rammstein- The only neat thing about this song is that Till lights himself on fire:)

Laichzeit- Weird song but mostly for the lyrics.

Wollt ihr das Bett in Flammen sehen?- It's alright.

Seemann- The perfect way to end an amazing night.

I am a fan from Turkey. This band kicks ass. This live performance pushes the limits of music. You just want to be there. If you are into live recordings, this album is a must.

"Live Aus Berlin" features the German industrial/metal machine known as Ramstein at they're best: live. Widely known for they're pyrotechnic shows, the energy from the band and the crowd of screaming fans on this live album makes up for the lack of visuals. "Spiel Mit Mir", "Sehnsucht", "Wilder Wein", "Du Hast", "Rammstein", and "Seeman" are all brought to life live amazingly, but the standout track here is the mournful "Engel" in which the crowd sings along, and the emotion in lead singer Till Lindemann's voice must be heard to be believed. The thrashing drums and grinding guitar work has never sounded better, and all together "Live Aus Berlin" is one of the best live albums from a metal/industrial outfit. The DVD of the same title is also strongly recommended, just as long as your not afraid of fire or any of Rammstein's other infamous live shenanigans.
