Product Description

This enormous live box set is a necessity for the hardcore Metallifan, though casual fans (if Metallica has any casual fans) might be scared off. It contains material up to and including the self-titled "black" album, including concert favorites "Creeping Death" and "Seek & Destroy," as well as classics like "For Whom the Bell Tolls," "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)," and "Fade to Black." There are also a couple of ripping-fast solos from Jason Newsted and Kirk Hammett, and covers of "Last Caress," "Am I Evil?" and "Stone Cold Crazy." The videos are from a 1992 San Diego concert and a 1989 stop on the Damaged Justice tour in Seattle; both are guaranteed to turn any fan who hasn't had the considerable pleasure of hearing this seminal metal band live green with envy. Pricey, but very highly recommended. --Genevieve Williams

4.0 out of 5 stars nice set.....but. Sep 9 2007
Format:Audio CD
ok...as a huge old time fan(pre-"load" years..),this set is pretty damn nice and a great collection of classic songs but a few changes would have been nice. First the bad...5 disks(3 CD's & 2 DVD's) and almost EXACTLY the same set list on each one! i mean i love "seek and destroy" and "battery" but how about a disk of some rare tracks, demos,or the stuff you never hear live? ("eye of the beholder","escape",'holier then thou" ect.) the stuff you expect in a box set. now..the disks themselves.the sound quality on the audio disks is awesome(the drum sound and riffs on "sad but true" and "am i evil" are even heavier the the albums!) however i could REALLY do with out the moronic 9 minute crowd chant in "seek and destroy". now the DVD's.. in my mind disk two in Seattle BLOWS AWAY disk one in San Diego. the Seattle show is KILLER! it's extremely well shot, looks like real concert and the power and groove of the band at their peak really comes off well. the San Diego show(taped on the black album tour) on the other hand looks like an extended standard music video with too many quick cuts, blury stage shot and bad lighting, kinda like a Michael Bay movie. Bottom line...i've watched the disk two about 40 times, i've watched disk one a total of twice. nuff said. oh yeah...its a bummer but neither of the two DVD's are in widescreen (they were shot in 89' and 93 so its excuseable. in closing this set is worth getting if your a hard core fan of the good old days even at the price just don't expect anything really new or hard to find, just a good live document of a (once) great band and killer tunes.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW..!!!!! Jun 11 2004
Format:Audio CD
Metallica's live releases have always been a mainstay in my dvd/vhs library, and i finally decided to take the plunge with this one. i have to say im a little dissapointed with the size of the booklet pic on dvd 2, but aside from that lets get onto the good stuff. the concert is filmed with a cinematic quality that makes it all that more entertaining to watch (ala S&M dvd) and is a great and powerful show by the greatest band on the face of the planet, the masters of metal, METALLICA!! basically, do urself a favor, drop $50 on this, i promise that u wont regret it! rock on, peace out and HEAVY METAL FOREVER!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good set, great value for money, but questionable sound.
I'd missed out on the chance to see Metallica live during this tour in support of the band's eponymous 'Black Album', so Live Sh*t: Binge & Purge is probably the closest I'll... Read more
