Great music. The DVD was fine. It's hard to jazz up the stage presence of Warren.

Brilliant April 25 2012
By J. Johnson - Published on
Format: Audio CD
This CD places Warren Haynes in near perfect light. One disc of original songs mostly drawn from the Man In Motion CD, and one CD including brilliant covers such as Steely Dan's Pretzel Logic and arguably the highlight of the CD a cover of Sam Cooke's A Change Is Gonna Come.

Throughout, Warren is in fine voice and the background musicians are tight. The recording quality is excellent, and Warren's guitar playing runs the gauntlet from simmering to scorching hot.

I highly recommend this CD. Absolutely brilliant

I Totally Agree With All The 5 Star Reviews - Buy This 2 CD/DVD Set - You'll Love Every Minute of It!!!!!!!!!! Sept. 13 2012
By Gary Covington - Published on

If you like the Allman Brothers Band, Gov't Mule, or Warren Haynes in general, then you'll really enjoy this new release. This "New" Warren Haynes Band, is totally different than Gov't Mule. The Warren Haynes Band is a "Rhythm & Blues" Band, whereas, Gov't Mule is a "Blues Rock" band. This band, this concert & this release are discussed in detail, in the current issue of "Hittin' The Note" magazine. In that article, Warren states that this band has a totally different personality than Gov't Mule, and I agree with that assessment.

After, listening to this & after watching the DVD, I definitely rate this as a "stellar live performance" by The Warren Haynes Band.

This live concert was recorded/filmed on 11/3/2011 at the Moody Theater, in Austin, Texas. The total running time is around 2.5 hours.

The songs on the DVD are as follows:
Set 1:
2.Man in Motion
3.River's Gonna Rise
4.Sick of my Shadow
5.A Friend to You
6.On a Real Lonely Night
7.Power & The Glory

Set 2:
9.Take a Bullet
10.Hattisburg Hustle
11.Everyday Will be Like a Holiday
12.Frozen Fear
13.Prezel Logic
14.Fire in the Kitchen
15.A Change is Gonna Come
16.Spanish Castle Magic
17.Band Introduction
18.Tear Me Down

19.Your Wildest Dreams

Bonus Tracks:
21.Patchwork Quilt (Soundcheck)
22.Hattisburg Hustle (Rehersal)

This is "Jam Oriented Music", like the Allman Brothers Band & Gov't Mule. On this 2 CD/DVD set concert, the band does, just "improvisationally jams", spontaneously. I really like that in a band, and all the Allman Brothers Band related bands, seem to have that ability. The Tedeschi Trucks Bands certainly has it also.

The Warren Haynes Band consists of:
Warren Haynes - on Guitar & lead vocals
Ron Holliway - tenor sax
Ron Johnson - bass
Terence Higgins - drums
Nigel Hall - Keyboards & vocals
Alecia Chakour - vocals

Also, on this new concert release, you get several, special guest musicians, making the music more rich & deep, and entertaining.

If you like what I have decribed above, then you'll certainly love this great new release. Thanks and I hope this review has been helpful.

Warren's best to date? Sept. 3 2012
By Direwolf - Published on

I've been watching Warren Haynes for years. First with the ABB, then with the Mule, with Phil and Friends, with "The Dead" 2004 and 2009, and back with the ABB again. I don't want to get hyped out, but this may be Warren's finest work to date. All the songs from his recent studio release "Man in Motion" come alive here with the addition of a sax, then ultimately a horn section. He's assembled a talented group of musicians, and his guitar playing has never been better. This is a fantastic combination of R and B plus rock that he pulls off seemingly effortlessly. A must have for Haynes fans. For those folks unfamiliar with Warren's work, this is the place to start.

Keep bringing it Warren April 28 2012

Sad to say if your don't understand the greatness that Warren is, this or any review is simply not objective from any standpoint. Warren, in my mind, and probably a lot of musicians, truly one of the most talented players we have right now. His flavorings and choice of where he takes his music are always a joyful journey. The Warren Haynes Band is a perfect example of this and a side project that his Mule Bandmates are all the better for as it pushes them all to continue to explore music in new directions. Not all journeys arrive at the intended destination, but something can be learned even with wrong turns. This set however, is a trek to not only a true landing point for Warren, but a place he was always meant to visit.
The quality of the recordings are great and as much as I liked the Man in Motion CD, Warren is at his best in a live setting where he always expands on the original material in new and exciting ways. I had the pleasure of seeing this project in action twice in the last year and truly loved the sound. The Mule gets back together this year after a year in hibernation an can't wait to see where th past layoff takes the band. As for this effort on CD and DVD if you are a fan, don't hesitate, if your not in the club already and like the AllBros, the Dead, Tedeski Trucks, the who, the stones, Dylan, Stevie Wonder, Sly and the family, Santana, heck anyone with a great guitar flavor combined with or without funk, you are in for a treat.

Man In Motion "Live" May 29 2012
By Richard Thompson - Published on
Format: Audio CD
If you are a die-hard Gov't Mule fan and did not really like Warren's solo album - Man In Motion - this cd/dvd combo is probably not for you. This musical performance showcases the Warren Haynes Band, which is essentially a soul band, not the blues rock style of Gov't Mule. The Warren Haynes Band (WHB) includes a 3-piece horn section, full-time saxophone player, and a female back-up singer. In fact, just to put things in perspective, Warren is the only white guy on the stage.

Now, if like me, you did indeed like the Man In Motion cd then this dvd/cd combo is gonna be a treat to your eyes and ears. It is basically a snapshot of the WHB tour in support of the Man In Motion disc recorded at a club in Austin, Texas in 2011. In fact, they play all but one track from the Man In Motion disc during the performance. Other tracks include songs from Warren's very first solo album Tales of Ordinary Madness from way back in 1993 which is very cool indeed, and two from the Gov't Mule album The Deep End, vol. 1, Tear Me Down and Soulshine, which he end's most of his shows with these days. And of course he plays a variety of covers, from Ziggy Marley to Steely Dan.

The show is about 2 ½ hours long, with typical longer extended live jams on a number of these tracks, and even though it is somewhat "horn heavy" in places, Warren's excellent guitar work still shines thru enough to please any Gov't Mule fan. The most amazing thing is you get all this for about $19...Amazing!
