My last mouse was Microsoft's Natural Wireless Laser Mouse 6000. It was very ergonomic, but it had a number of shortfalls that finally added up and it was time to replace it. So, when I decided that I needed a new mouse, what I did not like about my old mouse sure weighted a lot in making my final choice.

IF TRUTH BE TOLD, PC GAMING CAN ONLY MEAN A WIRED MOUSE
My old (wireless) mouse could loose its connection (and was then slow in responding or turned unresponsive until reset) if the receiver was not in direct visual contact with it. Moreover, there are a lot of negative reviews about rechargeable mice (such as the G700), so my next mouse could only be a wired one.
The G500 comes with an ample length of sturdy yet flexible USB cord - and the fact that it is also braided is a nice touch. Plug it in and forget about it for as long as you keep using it. No batteries to replace or recharge, no receiver to keep changing position. Technology is supposed to make our lives simpler, right?

ERGONOMICS GET A B+
I was used to the much taller MS mouse so the G500 feels too flat. That may be a matter of preference and something one has to get used to. However, with my old MS mouse the angle my wrist was resting at felt much more natural and my wrist was much less strained after some hours of computer use. Apparently Logitech addressed this in its latest G700.
Another issue I am having with the G500 is the BACK side-button which I keep hitting whenever I move the mouse to the right.

My previous mouse, an MX500, worked great, and when it gave out after a few years, I replaced it with this one, bought from another retailer. It was a reasonably good replacement. After about two months, the left mouse button developed doubleclickitis, meaning that sometimes it would click once as intended, but mostly it would doubleclick. I had long tossed my box and receipt, so I couldn't return it.

It is a good mouse, although not as comfortable as the MX500, but you can get the occasional lemon.

Update: I found a video on Youtube that showed a very simple way of correcting the double-click problem: Simply slam it on your desk. I would not recommend this for a flawlessly working mouse, but if you're on the verge of replacing it, you have little to lose. Since I tried this remedy, my mouse has been working very satisfactorily.

I recently bought this mouse as an upgrade of an older Logitech (can't remember the model), so it was an easy transition.
The software is very easy to use and allows all the buttons to be reassigned to any key stroke or several custom commands.
I have no use for the dpi increasing buttons so I reassigned them to = and -, and bound those keys to abilities in game.
My one complaint: the middle mouse button is absolutely useless. You have to push the wheel down exactly perfectly straight or else it thinks you tilted the wheel right. To get around this I reassigned mouse tilt right as the middle button. This isn't a huge problem but you lose one of the buttons advertised.

This product does not deserve to be called a gaming mouse. I purchased one and after 50 hour of Diablo 3 the left click button was dead and the mouse started double clicking on everything. I talk to a Logitech person and he told me that they had to cut corners in order to compete with other gaming mouse. it was nice of the Amazon people to give me a refund and I purchased a MadCatz Cyborg MMO7 now that is a real gaming mouse, granted it is worth 3 time the price of this mouse but for serious gamers this G500 is junk. If you Google G500 double clicking you will find thousands of hits on how cheap the internals of this mouse is and how many people had to return this product. i will never purchase a Logitech product again. For the normal person who just want to check email and do a bit of surfing it is a good mouse, for gaming forget about it. I say spend the money and buy a superb mouse like the Cyborg MMO7 made with real sturdy components.

Ordered the mouse December 2011. 6 months later, June 2012, left click button starts making random double-clicks. Amazon raplaced me the same mouse at no charge.

Right now, 8 months later, still having the same issue.

Left-click buttoon issue makes gaming impossible or very difficult for obvious reasons. Also, drag, moving icons, opening file, navigate in Windows is now very diffcult with the Logitech G500 Gaming Mouse.

Now, Amazon just confirmed me I have to contact Logitech myself and deal with them directly...

A mouse at this price should last for many years. I'm just a casual gamer, the mouse hasn't been used intensively at all. It looks brand new, no dust, no damage, I'm the only one using it. I always used the mouse with great care.

I do not recommend it at all. Don't buy this item.
