No matter what you are looking for, this book isn't it,

Often the value of a book is based on what the reader is looking for but this book provides value to only a few (the other reviewer.)This book is poorly organized, it seems to go all over the place and there is no logical flow. With the different layout and design of each page it adds another level of difficulty in reading and following. Topics are not comprehensive; often it gives you only select tips. With background in the topic there is no reference for the tips. This book does provide some good tips. Only consider this book if you are a professional typographer, it assumes you have extensive knowledge in typography.

J'ai acheté ce livre en me fiant aux commentaires positifs lus ici et sur certains sites consacrés à la typographie. Je constate malheureusement que JT Liu (voir autres commentaires) a en partie raison : la mise en page est plutôt mauvaise, le contenu semble se limiter à ce qui se fait aux États-Unis seulement et les logos choisis comme exemples sont parfois carrément hideux, tout droit sortis de l'esthétique "cheap" du début des années 1990. Je trouve aussi que l'auteur met trop l'accent sur la typrographie et le graphisme d'après-guerre, alors qu'il aurait été intéressant de voir plus d'exemples de ce qui se fait aujourd'hui. Seule la partie technique, consacrée à la manipulation des courbes de Bézier et à l'utilisation de logiciels comme Illustrator et Fontographer (même si ce dernier est désuet), mérite le détour.Dommage... - retour à l'envoyeur.

As a college instructor who teaches a variety of graphic design classes, I am always on the outlook for another book for inspiration and supplemental material for lectures. I have quite a decent number of books about typography in my personal library, but since getting a copy of Cabarga's book, I would count it as the best of the best. I am enthralled that I have found some good background on what exactly goes into designing fonts and lettering by hand. I also found the information about Fontographer extremely helpful. I would recommend this title to designers and design students and instructors.
