About the Author

It's been more than 16 years since Anja left her native Croatia. She journeyed to several continents before making New York her base 10 years ago. But the roots are a'calling. She's been returning to Croatia frequently for work and play, intent on discovering a new place on every visit, be it a nature park, an offbeat town or an island. She's happy that Croatia's many beauties are appreciated worldwide, but secretly longs for the time when you could have a leisurely seafront coffee in Hvar without waiting for a table.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mostly good, but lacked maps in some key places, May 28 2011
By Anna S. - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Lonely Planet Croatia 6th Ed.: 6th Edition (Paperback)
I bought a copy of Rough Guide to Croatia and then got frustrated with its lack of information on transportation and purchased a Lonely Planet Croatia book as well. Both turned out to be good for different things. The Lonely Planet book lacked some key maps including one of Plitvice National Park and Borik, the area near Zadar where most tourists stay. I have no idea how we would have found our hotel in Zadar (reviewed in both books) without the Rough Guide because Lonely Planet was no help.

I think the authors of both books are still learning about Croatia because they occasionally lacked information about places that the other had. Just not up to snuff like the Lonely Planets I've used to travel around Latin America.

5.0 out of 5 stars Took it to Croatia and Loved it!, Jun 8 2011

Love these Lonely Planet Guides. They do a pretty good job of showing you where and what to do/go. They have some pretty cool did-ya-know tidbit facts inside and I did love how they broke down each individual area. There were a couple of towns that were not even in the book, but overall it helped us out immensely.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lonely Planet - THE ONLY travel guide you need!, April 11 2011
By Michael J. Schmidt - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Lonely Planet Croatia 6th Ed.: 6th Edition (Paperback)
I've visited 44 countries, mostly on a budget, and Lonely Planet is THE only book I would consider using. It's throrough, comprehensive and concise. It's especially geared for the budget/adventure traveler, though it would also prove useful to anyone on a tour or cruise. Lonely Planet is packed with maps, useful phrases, history lessons, tips on culture & conduct, addresses and descriptions of museums, hotels, restaurants - everything you need. Though Lonely Planet leans towards those of us who travel in hostels and budget hotels, it also gives a good description of hotels and restaurants for those who wish to travel in a more luxurious manner. There are other good travel books out there - Eyewitness Guides, etc - that have a lot of beautiful photos - but unless you're traveling with a steamer trunk, these are of little use because they lack the information you'll need while on the road. Look at the others for inspiration before you go, if you'd like, but pack your Lonely Planet. I'd never travel without it.
