1.0 out of 5 stars Worst of Lonely Planet Mar 23 2013
Format:Paperback
This is by far the worst Lonely Planet I've used. It's full of misinformation (e.g. a 30 hr bus trip from Ibarra to Otavalo when it should be 3hrs), incomplete information (e.g. only bus info from Mindo, not to). These are isolated examples but indicative of the poor quality and incompleteness of the book. It appears to be hastily thrown together by someone who has not actually been there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eactly what you'd expect Mar 18 2013

Does a great job of describing the country for the beginner. I don't have any other books to compare it, but I found enough information here to make it a good purchase. I usually buy 2 books if I'm going to a new place, so there will be anoher purchase soon I am sure.

3.0 out of 5 stars So So May 8 2013
By Researched.Bought. - Published on Amazon.com

I do like lonely planet and this was the first time I took the book along for the vacation.
Didn't quite like the eateries that we tried recommended by LP, wish they'd cater to all taste buds and add more updates - Some of the places didn't exist anymore or had moved. They could also do with an updates on the hostels - found some off hostel world and trip advisor that were fab and weren't even mentioned in LP.
All in all, we relied 50% on LP, 20% on the blogs and info found off the internet and 30% on the locals :)
P.S. Ecuador is a bite size country, spend 15 days or 50 and you would always find something new. Loved the country.
P.P.S. We also read Moon's handbook before we left for Ec and found it better in terms of above mentioned.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lonely Planet Standard Jan 25 2013

As always, a great Lonely Planet product. I have used these guides all around the world as they are the standard in the industry for all true travelers.
3.0 out of 5 stars We are not exotical we are cultural May 10 2013
By Jaime A. Iturralde V - Published on Amazon.com

The travel guide is ok, it has good actualized tourist information about my country Ecuador, I decided to buy this book to know what kind of information is given by it, so as the national tour guide that I am, I found some paragraphs with improper information. Summarizing I want to tell to the world that south american countries are more than exotical facts, we have a milenarian culture based on nature, outstanding landscapes and the most important fact is people with their real features.
Don't trust everithing explained (Ecuadorian Traditions) by Lonely Planet's book guide, because I am sure we will discover your own truth if you come to visit ECUADOR.
