First Sentence
It is believed that the ancestors of the Aborigines journeyed from South-East Asia to the Australian mainland at least 50,000 years ago, but to this day no-one is quite sure how they managed to reach it. Read the first page

This review is from: Lonely Planet Queensland (Paperback)
Obviously purchase this book if you intend to visit Queensland only. I travelled for a month covering, Brisbane, Surfer's Paradise, Cairns, Cow Bay, Daintree, Cooktown, Undara, & Mission Beach. The information on hostels, transportation, things to do and see, and maps were right on. I used this book extensively and highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive Guide to Queensland, Sep 7 2005

Lonely Planet seems to me to be the most thorough of the guide-book publishers. The Guide to Queensland, the state that covers the northeastern part of Australia, is no exception. I think the town plans are particularly good.

Lonely Planet has great guides for their home country of Australia. I visited all over Queensland from the Gold Coast to Cooktown and found this guidebook very helpful. The hostels they recommended in Cooktown and Cairns were great. Negative aspect is not enough info regarding high prices in Cape Tribulation. It is mentioned but not a strong enough warning about the fleecing of travelers at the stores in the area. Travelers should be warned to carry enough food for their time at Cape Tribulation to avoid he scamming IGA store there. Coverage of Brisbane is extensive, also enjoyed the section on the Gold Coast.

Their review of Cooktown encouraged me to explore this wonderul city. Also their recommended tour provider of the Great Barrier Reef (from Cape Tribulation) was excellent. Reviews of sites in Cairns aso great.
