Each country gets a two-page spread, on which are placed, like luscious dishes set before one at a feast, illustrations that are typical of Lonely Planet's unique, non-picture-postcard brand of shots. The accompanying text presents a cogent rundown of the best experiences for gaining the essence of the place; books to read beforehand; music to listen to before you go; food and drink to consume once you are there; and a few brief but pungent closing comments on the trademark things to do and buy and see and what, ultimately, is the best surprise awaiting the tourist. Amazing book, well worth the price,

I ordered this book, expecting a few nice photographs and maybe an idea or two for my next adventure. What I got was a book with over 400 pages and at least 2400 gorgeous full-coulor pictures. Also included are reading and music reccomendations, specific to each country, maps, ideas for what to do once you are there, and tonnes more. I'm considering buying a few more for like-minded family and friends, as the value is incredible for this massive hard cover coffee-table type of book.

Pretty picture book,

I was expecting some useful travel info - but this book is pretty much a large coffee table picture book. It is filled with 100's of National Geographic type photo's from every country in the world and a few sentences of random blurbs. Once you have looked at all the pictures, there isn't much further use for it.

This is a fantastic book. First of all the pictures. WOW. The pictures are so colourful, so bright and typical LP, the people, the landscape. True quality photographs. There is one huge picture for each country then about 5 little ones.
