About the Author

After years of traveling, Sandra finally got tired of not having a vegetable garden and settled down in Portland, Oregon. She finally has her heirloom tomatoes, but their health is constantly compromised by her continued trips. Researching Oregon has been a highlight of Sandra's Lonely Planet career, which has spanned six years and as many countries. She's come to realize of how beautiful her home state is, how much it has to offer and how friendly people are in those tiny countryside towns in the middle of nowhere.

I just concluded a road trip to Oregon coast with the help of this book and thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience. . The book is quite up to date with all the given information and is full of great recommendation for places to visit, things to do and hotels/b&bs to stay. The book is concise, easy to carry and easy to read with all the related information in one spot. Personally, I spend just too much time on internet in getting information and often go off-tangent. This book will help you save time and will make you cherish your entire trip.

4.0 out of 5 stars A must have if your heading down the coast Mar 4 2013

It's a great book to have the only travel book you'll need for your west coast trip. We headed down the coast last year and took this book along. It was an amazing trip and I recommended this book for your travels. We found some great spots to go to, some that we avoided due to the recommendations in the book and amazing food... don't forget to grab the APP for Dinners Drive ins and Dives if your driving.... we missed out on some amazing food places ;0( ah well we will have to go back! The food recommendations in Oregon were spot on in this book though!

Here for 18months and needed a book to show us around the entire pacific north west, also not just the big towns but we will be around a lot of areas that are not in the usual tourist destinations. This book however, seems to have it all!

Pros: Topical, informative, humorous, well written
Cons: None that i can find yet

Well worth a buy if you are doing any sort of travelling around the pnw!

3.0 out of 5 stars I'll stick with Fodor's Oct 31 2011

I thought I'd branch out and try a different travel guide for a recent trip to the Pacific NW so I purchased this guide (as well as the Fodor's guide for the same area.). I used both on the trip and felt, while the Lonely Planet guide offered some interesting tidbits, the Fodor's guide contained more usfeul substance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great guide for traveling Mar 4 2013

I am planning a trip to Portland during Easter and Lonely Planet was the first guide book came to mind. It offers good information on historical and cultural backgrounds, as well as practical information for where to stay and where/what to see. I love hiking and know that Oregon is great for that, but have no idea where to start, this book provided great information and I basically planned my trip according to its suggestions.
