Lonesome Roads consists of three novellas. The first novella "Forest Plains" has the dead man, Lazarus, a native American, driving into the dustbowl town of Forest Plains and uncovering it's long buried secret.
When John Penderson's wife dies, in the second novella "Stand-By", he is devastated. Unable to come to terms with his loss, he goes in search of a way to bring her back.
In the final story David Milligan is benefits from arcane family knowledge, the ability to stop time. David finds that he must use the knowledge in a desperate life or death situation.
