Book Description

Jan 12 2010
The fourth of Joan Grant's "Far Memory" novels, Lord of the Horizon, set in Egypt at the close of the dark XIth Dynasty, is a profound commentary on the power of fear and the unlimited ability of light to shatter it. It is the sequel to Eyes of Horus. Lord of the Horizon is the story, told in the first person, of Ra-ab, heir to the Nomarch of the Oryx. Ra-ab is twenty-one as the story begins. The dawn for which Ra-ab and the Watchers of the Horizon fought in Eyes of Horus has come, but to 'Send Fear into Exile', as the Watchers' password promised, proves difficult. The new Pharaoh, Amenemhet, marries the daughter of the Pharaoh he deposed, thereby enabling her mother, a Babylonian by birth, to retain influence. Like a spider, she spins a web of intrigue and manipulation which threatens to plunge Egypt back into darkness. Her prize is Amenemhet's son Senusert, who will one day be Pharaoh himself. Finally, Pharaoh realizes what has occurred, and calls on his friend Ra-ab Hotep, hero of the revolution, to take Senusert to his home in the Oryx and help him grow up properly, so he will be ready to fulfill his duties as Pharaoh. But the Babylonian is not yet defeated. She continues to challenge Amenemhet's rule and authority, leading inexorably to the final showdown. As a child growing up in Edwardian England, Joan Grant became aware of an astonishing ability to remember previous lifetimes, and as an author professed her seven novels to be based on her personal recollections of other incarnations, male and female, in ancient civilisations. "Ra'ab, the Warrior, heir of the Peace of God... speaks with a voice that those who today are seeking illumination may welcome as the voice of a friend." TLS

About the Author

Joan Grant authored a set of 7 remarkable novels, in which she recaptures the drama and setting of one of her own previous lives. Called "far memory" novels, these 7 books offer tremendous insight into the nature of reincarnation, spiritual development, and psychic talents. She also wrote a set of memoirs and one nonfiction study of reincarnation, Many Lifetimes, which she coauthored with her 3rd husband, Denys Kelsey. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brimming With Practical Wisdom Nov 25 2011
Format:Paperback
While most books expand one's intellectual knowledge, Joan Grant's "far memory" novels inspire wisdom. Spiriutal truths sparkle like precious gems throughout all seven of them. They are more than stories of forgotten eras, they are timeless manuals for living and dying. Lord of the Horizon continues the story of Ra-ab in Eyes of Horus. It has more of a domestic feel to it when compared with the action packed drama of Eyes of Horus. It tells the stories of Ra-ab's children and therefore contains much excellent parenting advice. It is a strong reminder that the most important thing in life is our relationships; whether they be with family, friends or strangers, animals, plants or the gods, the most significant one of all is the one we have with ourselves. Definately read Eyes of Horus first or this one will not have the same impact. Although these novels can be appreciated on their own, reading Winged Pharaoh - Joan's first novel - is important since it is like the pilot light that all her other novels glean their wisdom from. Thank you to Dawn Chorus Press for keeping these less popular of Joan's novels in print.

5.0 out of 5 stars High-Stakes Royal Intrigue and Spiritual Enlightenment. Feb 5 2000
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Intrigue at the highest levels of royalty...a ghost story set in the burial chambers of a pharaoh's pyramid...a mystery to test the mind and loyalty of a hero and determine the fate of Egypt herself - these are the stakes at risk in the twin books EYES OF HORUS and LORD OF THE HORIZON, by Joan Grant.

These two books were written to be published as one, but: The year was 1942 and author and publisher were in wartime England, where there was a severe paper shortage.  So, the book was made into two, with one published in 1942 and the second in 1944.  Each is complete and easy to read, but to experience the vast sweep of historical significance in the events of the stories, one should read first HORUS and then HORIZON.

Both are recommended for all who are interested in spiritual enlightenment, ancient Egypt, and grand writing by an author with a sweeping command of language, history and imagery.

The best of it was that I received the book faster than it was anounced. Sorry if I am too short but as a spanish speaking I read quite well in english but I lack of words when writing.

Joan Grant creates realistic ancient environments. Once you start reading one of her books you are hooked on it, and will continue to read it until the end.
