You better go ahead and buy them all now,

I am not going to fill you in on the many lives of J.R.R. Tolkien. Nor am I going to paraphrase the story. J.R.R. Tolkien himself tells you what you need to know in the prolog. However I don't believe that people take him seriously when he says that this work is not an allegory.The reason I say buy the complete "Lord of the Rings" now is that you will just be picking up speed and getting everything straight in your mind and you will come to the end of this volume. Talk about a cliffhanger. This animal leaves you with several. Everyone in the book seems to enjoy pleasures. So should you and consider buying the hardback book. My images of the critters of course do not match any pictures. However you don't have to strain your eyes with a paperback in one hand, tea in the other and a cat in the third. A good size book will help detour any animals heading for your lap.

A Beautiful Start,

"The Fellowship of the Ring" is the start to what is probably the most loved epic fantasy series ever written. From the first pages when Bilbo Baggins makes his secret departure from Hobbiton, you are drawn in to this lush story. Tolkien tells a wonderful story and is able to do that while keeping the reader hooked from page 1."Fellowship" is the start of the trilogy, "The Lord of the Rings." In this first installment, Bilbo Baggins leaves Hobbiton and leaves The One Ring in the hands of his cousin, Frodo Baggins. When gandalf the Grey tells of brewing trouble the Hobbit says he's going to move to Buckland. He departs on a quest that will change his life forever. He takes along friends Sam, Merry, and Pippin. The hobbits finally reach Rivendell and an important counsel is held. This is the point in the book where the plot starts to skyrocket. To tell you any more on the plot would most likely ruin your reading. Tolkien's detail on nature and history is astounding and only makes the novel even greater. He is always describing the surroundings and I just couldn't get enough of it. Some may not like this detail because they say Tolkien just drags on and on. This couldn't be furthur from the truth. His detail only adds to this beautiful story. For those of you that are interested in reading this book because you loved the movie need to know what you are getting into. This is the start of one of the biggest and best fantasy epics of all time. Don't think that you're going to be opening a book that anybody can handle. That is not the case. Only people that are willing to make a commitment to a fabulous and sometimes complicated novel should buy this. "The Fellowship of the Ring" is the start to what is most likely the best fantasy epic of our time. There is not enough that one could say about such a riveting novel. I strongly recommend this to anyone that is interested in a wonderful fantasy that is willing to make a commitment. The best thing about "The Fellowship of the Ring" is that there are two more novels that come right after it. Happy Reading!

THE FIRST = THE WORST,

Uau, this is obnoxious writing. It seems Tolkien was mockering his readers. IT's not possible, to a book classified as "fantasy", to start a trilogy in such a boring manner. The description of the hobbits' breakfast, lunch and dinner are annoying, a total waste of time, it only makes some readers (like myself) want to get rid of the little fellas!!! Then comes the endless descriptions of the sun rising, wind from the west, winds from the east, the green of the ground, the waters falling in cascade, the sun rising, the sun going down...!!! Enough!! The FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING is the worst book of the three. As I see, here are the merits and flaws of Tolkien's totally overrated trilogy:* MERITS: 1- Someone willing to write such a long book must be respected by the enormous difficulty of the taske alone; * FLAWS: 1- The characters, all of them, are totally faceless, in the style of Frederick Forsyth's characters. We don't have any insight about heir feelings, about what's really going on inside their heads and hearts; 2- Tolkien clearly copied unashamedly so many points from other fables, like the Arturian legend, for example; 3- The endless descriptions sometimes makes one wonder that he is only gaining time (and pages), by repeating himself over and over again, like " the sun was coming down, the air was heavy, the sun was rising, the air was clean and bright........."" Irc! I really think the complete trilogy would fit in just one 500 pages book. That's all.
