Product Description

Packed with more than 750 dazzling visual effects, this $70 million adventure does more (and less) than give the 1965-68 TV series a state-of-the-art face-lift. Aimed at an audience that wasn't born when the series originally aired, the sci-fi extravaganza doesn't even require familiarity, despite cameo appearances by several of the TV show's original cast members. Instead it's a high-tech hybrid of the original premise with enough sensory overload to qualify as a spectacular big-screen video game, supported by a time-travel premise that's adequately clever but hardly original. It's certainly never boring, and visually it's an occasionally awesome demonstration of special effects technology. But in its attempt to be all things to all demographics, the movie's more of a marketing ploy than a satisfying adventure, thankfully dispensing with the TV show's cheesy camp but otherwise squandering a promising cast in favor of eye-candy and ephemeral storytelling. In keeping with the movie's high-tech appeal, the DVD is a feature-packed marvel, including two audio commentaries, deleted scenes, two featurettes covering special effects and the original TV series (featuring complete biographies and episode guides), the original screenplay, and interactive games. --Jeff Shannon

4.0 out of 5 stars Great imagination - good result April 24 2013
Format:Blu-ray
I have seen this movie on VHS a couple of times with my young son, so I don't really know about the blue ray quality. Nevertheless, the movie is great. It dates, but the action is omnipresent, the members of the family that must leave for space, the idea of the mutant spider, the parallel universe and the time distorsions are most interesting. Obviously, young children see an entertaining movie, while adults show more curiosity and start a reflexion. Of course, there are a couple of irrealistic scenes, like flying throuh the sun or the strange planet while it desintegrates. But it is about Lost in Space and it fits well. Even Smith is there, and he is as bad as one can be. I also like the flight of the small space jets at the beginning of the movie: you understand that driving a spaceship in atmosphere zero is far from easy and mostly not like it is in Star Wars... But I don't care about the commando guy that is recruited to fly the ship. They could have done without him. Certainly not a 5 stars, it disserves a 4 stars because of the originality of the story, the action and because it reminds me of the series so badly done in the 70's.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent film. Mar 22 1999
Format:VHS Tape
An excellent Science Fiction film. Better than the original TV Show. Waiting for the sequel...hopefully the awesome robot will have a greater part. Also the price of this video sold here is excellent. Much cheaper than the video shops.-

I had seen this film in the theatre unaware of any reviews. From the opening scene till the end of the credits. Incredible. If you immerse yourself in a movie as I always try to do........ it's a trip of all emotions. I've read a few Poorly rating reviews and am glad I do not know these people. Anyone with a movie collection needs this film in it for the sake of your own history. Well acted and the best animation and CGI for the day. I just wish the Blue-Ray was available today. A sequel is in order. Let's go Major!

1.0 out of 5 stars Really, really bad.
It hurt. I loved the original series when I was young. This is SO bad by comparison. OK, the special effects are decades beyond it, but the writing stank.
