One of the Best Sci-Fi films.,
By
This review is from: Lost in Space [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
I had written a review of this film for the DVD version"-....(I had seen this film in the theatre unaware of any reviews. From the opening scene till the end of the credits. Incredible. If you immerse yourself in a movie as I always try to do........ it's a trip of all emotions. I've read a few Poorly rating reviews and am glad I do not know these people. Anyone with a movie collection needs this film in it for the sake of your own history. Well acted and the best animation and CGI for the day. I just wish the Blue-Ray was available today. A sequel is in order. Let's go Major!....)I now have the BluRay and short of re-doing the special effects like they did in Star Wars, the film / disc is fine. Because of the high quality process, the limitations of the effects of the day show through. Other than a few scenes the transfer is just fine. The sound track make up for everything else. :)

NOT SO 'SPECIAL EFFECTS',
By
This review is from: Lost in Space [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
I had favoured this film at the cinema, but recently viewing this on BD has technically turned my love of the movie to a dislike! The special effects are somewhat boxed in as if we were watching the original Star Wars where the effects were 'overlaid' to the film, and you'd expect with digital effects of today and higher grade transfers to the BD format that a film like LOST IN SPACE would be perfect. This is not the case. I do not recommend purchasing this movie due to the transfer and how the effects hold up on the BD format. The DVD is much better (more consistent image quality) - if you are a fan of this movie keep it alive as a memory.

The disc is not 1080p. It's 1080i. But you can upconvert it to 1080p and the pic looks great. I could easily tell the difference when A/B-ing between interlaced and progressive, but the progressive looked as good as if the disc was 1080p because the progressive upconversion just adds more lines to an already great interlaced resolution. In case you are questioning my observation/expertise, I am a lifelong video/audiophile and my comparisions of the above were observed on a Pioneer 60" Kuro Plasma set. The audio is DTS Master Audio 5.1, but you will have to set the audio to this format because the disc doesn't default to the highest audio rez. Also, if your Blu-ray player is set to auto, it may default to 1080i, as mine did, so you will have to manually set your player to 1080p. As I noted above, there is a big picture difference between the two video resolutions. Outside of set up issues, you will probably not be able to tell the difference between the Canadian release and the upcoming US release. Only the set up hassles are different. Did I say the price is right? Oh, as for MovieMars, you may not get a reply, but I just ordered the movie and they sent it to me in a reasonable amount of time. No problems. You want your stupid questions answered for $10 buck. Give me a break! 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful

Canadian release: Lost in Space,

Looking forward to the US release, but for those who can't wait, you can get the "bare bones" movie only Canadian release. Soundtrack is in DTS-MA, which should blow you away (I have the DTS laserdisc which is absolutely outstanding).

Electromagnetic Miracles Now Come Into Play - NOT In This Movie!!,
By Jeff N - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Lost in Space (DVD)
In the first episode of Lost In Space (1965) the Narrator says, "ELECTROMAGNETIC MIRACLES NOW COME INTO PLAY..." He wasn't just talking about the Freezing Tubes. Irwin Allen had the guts to show Atomically Powered Magnetic Anti Gravity Engines. When the Jupiter 2 lifts off in the 1965 TV Series, no one ever talks about this, but you can See it and Hear it, and I think that's pretty awesome. You can hear the Magnetic Engines in many episodes as the ship lifts off, or hovers, or crash lands. You can also hear the Magnetic Engines loud and clear one or two times when John and Don are working on them from a console outside the ship. The Time Tunnel has the exact same wonderful sound effect when it's charging to transport Tony and Doug. Anyway... In This MESS of a movie, the ship takes off with Rockets, and then Star Trek Nacelles pop out for Light Speed, exactly as they do on the Voyager ship!! I love Voyager, but they clearly ripped off this design aspect from the Voyager ship as if no one would notice. Voyager began in 1995. This movie was made in 1998. If you Never saw the first season of Lost In Space (1965), this movie is not so great, but if you Have seen the first season of Lost In Space, this movie is HIDEOUS!!! In this movie, The Robot has the personality of a Toaster. Debbie the Bloop is a ridiculous, very badly animated cartoon character. A big part of what happens in the second half of this movie is so completely absurd that it cannot be enjoyed. ARGH!!! If you paid me $100 I MIGHT watch this movie again, but $1,000 would not make me enjoy it. |
