Praise for Mary Higgins Clark's The Lost Years:

“Once again Mary Higgins Clark affirms why she is the ‘Queen of Suspense’… Ms. Clark has another winner for her readers to enjoy getting us there with this entertaining taut tale in which the suspense spins from family violence to biblical archeological violence.” --Mystery Gazette

“At once a breathless murder mystery and a hunt for what may be the most precious religious and archeological treasure of all time.”

"Clark, known rightly as the queen of suspense, performs her usual magic…An intriguing blend of religious history and contemporary mystery, “The Lost Years” confirms Clark’s status as a writer who is willing and able to bend her formula – and to do so successfully—to address topics not often found in the genre.” --Richmond Times Dispatch

“If you’re someone who enjoys sharing novels with others, though, beware: lend this book and you may never get it back. That’s because, for mystery fans, ‘The Lost Years’ is truly a keeper.” --Pittsburgh Tribune

Product Description

In The Lost Years, Mary Higgins Clark, America’s Queen of Suspense, has written her most astonishing novel to date. At its center is a discovery that, if authenticated, may be the most revered document in human history—“the holiest of the holy”—and certainly the most coveted and valuable object in the world.

Biblical scholar Jonathan Lyons believes he has found the rarest of parchments—a letter that may have been written by Jesus Christ. Stolen from the Vatican Library in the 1500s, the letter was assumed to be lost forever.

Now, under the promise of secrecy, Jonathan is able to confirm his findings with several other experts. But he also confides in a family friend his suspicion that someone he once trusted wants to sell the parchment and cash in.

Within days Jonathan is found shot to death in his study. At the same time, his wife, Kathleen, who is suffering from Alzheimer’s, is found hiding in the study closet, incoherent and clutching the murder weapon. Even in her dementia, Kathleen has known that her husband was carrying on a long-term affair. Did Kathleen kill her husband in a jealous rage, as the police contend? Or is his death tied to the larger question: Who has possession of the priceless parchment that has now gone missing?

It is up to their daughter, twenty-eight-year-old Mariah, to clear her mother of murder charges and unravel the real mystery behind her father’s death. Mary Higgins Clark’s The Lost Years is at once a breathless murder mystery and a hunt for what may be the most precious religious and archaeological treasure of all time.

1.0 out of 5 stars Another religious thriller? Really? April 13 2012
MHC needs to stay in her own realm and not capitalize on deVinci codes success. I'm disappointed that I won't be reading another Mary Higgins Clark this year. I'll have to wait another year to see if she can deliver another classic MHC.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good not great June 3 2012
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
I did enjoy reading this book. It wasn't as good as her other books, it dragged in places and it didn't keep me up all night reading. I figured out who the killer was about half way through which I never used to be able to do in a Mary Higgins Clark book. I thought she did a great job describing a person with Alzheimers. As someone who works in a nursing home with people who have various forms of dementia I have seen residents act out in ways similar to Kathleen and then just as quickly revert back to being calm and quiet in minutes as though the outburst never happened. Alvirah and Willy make an appearance, they were good at the beginning of the book but got a bit annoying as the book went on since there's no way the police would ever let a private citizen get as involved in a criminal investigation as she did. But still it was enjoyable and helped to pass the time however it was easy to put it down and go do something else so it wasn't one of her best.

4.0 out of 5 stars enjoyed reading The Lost Years Nov. 6 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book like most of Mary Higgins Clark's books ( and I have read them all!) was very well written! Although, unlike all her other books it started out a lot slower. But about a third of the way through it did pick up. Most of her books have had me up till all hours to finish her books in one sitting! They are that good!! This one I read in a few sittings but it did not disappoint.
