For those that thought "why was Lucky Louie canceled, that was a great show!?", well you're in luck... Louis C.K. is back and even darker and depraved than ever with his newest endeavor, "Louie". If you haven't seen the show, "Louie" is (usually) formatted somewhat similar to very early episodes of Seinfeld (Louis C.K. doing standup, then the "sitcom" part of it relating to the standup you just heard, with another bit of his standup mid-way through, setting up the next part of the episode). There are exceptions to this, and sometimes the standup routine is part of the sitcom (like the episode where the woman is talking during his set and Louie starts making jokes at her expense, probably one of the funniest episodes of the season), so each episode doesn't feel the exact same (though I'm kind of knocking a star off for some of the un-evenness of the show, for example the episode where it's almost entirely about him as a kid learning about the crucifixion of Christ, I didn't find it as enjoyable as many of the other episodes, but I'll give him points for trying something different within his own show that maybe other people wouldn't have the balls to try). This is dark comedy at its finest, and it's good to see a channel like FX (also known for showing programs like "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia") giving this type of show a shot ("Louie" is into its second season as of writing this, and hopefully will continue for as long as Louis C.K. wants it to rather than what HBO did with "Lucky Louie"). My only other "beef" with the DVD set is that it's not uncensored.Read more ›

I was so impressed with the way each episode was constructed in this series. Louis CK is an incredibly funny comedian, but his skills as a director, writer, and even editor really blew me away.

Fans of Louis CK need to see this series! And as for people who have not yet heard of him before, be aware that he delves into some very controversial topics in his act at times, and sometimes uses shock value as a tool for his comedy. If you have an open mind to the unconventional, have a look at this series, because the mind of a middle-aged single dad is far from bland!

As for quality and content, this box contains two double-sided disks, with one side of each disk being Blu-Ray, and the other side DVD. I had no visual or audio quality problems with the Blu-Ray sides.

Extras were also quite entertaining. I especially enjoyed the commentary by Louis on almost every episode. He is a bit over-criticising at times, but his insight into the subject matter is very funny and even thought-provoking. There are a couple bloopers, but only a couple.

All in all, loved it, buy it.

If you like Louie C.K. you will find parts of this funny. But, it is clear, like all comedy series, that it takes a while to translate a funny man to a funny series. If you stick with it, seasons two and three just get funnier and funnier.
