Smart and edgy, and sometimes surreal.,

Much has been said about Louis CK being a 'comic's comic.' He's a man respected by his peers but never able to make a name for himself with the public. If the universe is fair and just, 'Louie' should make him a household name.Louis CK writes, directs, edits, and stars in this cable sitcom where he plays a version of himself working as a comedian in New York, with his stand-up sprinkled into the story of each episode. On paper, it sounds a lot like Seinfeld, but that's why you have to see the show. Louis CK lays himself all out in this show. Characters say and do things that make you uncomfortable, but not because their behaviour is embarrassing, like on Seinfeld, but because it's so honest. To call Louie a show about a comedian is probably also unfair, because CK make's it evident that he's a father first, and everything else comes afterwards. His awkward attempts to get back into dating are often sabotaged by his priorities: he's a father first. In the short first season, I was constantly surprised by every new episode. Season two, which is airing now, is even more refreshing, because it seems like he's more confident is his voice. He even tries his hand at acting! The package contains 2 discs that are dual-sided, one for Blu-Ray and one for DVD, which is in my mind the smartest way to sell TV and movies these days. Backwards compatibility is important to me!

I was so impressed with the way each episode was constructed in this series. Louis CK is an incredibly funny comedian, but his skills as a director, writer, and even editor really blew me away.Fans of Louis CK need to see this series! And as for people who have not yet heard of him before, be aware that he delves into some very controversial topics in his act at times, and sometimes uses shock value as a tool for his comedy. If you have an open mind to the unconventional, have a look at this series, because the mind of a middle-aged single dad is far from bland! As for quality and content, this box contains two double-sided disks, with one side of each disk being Blu-Ray, and the other side DVD. I had no visual or audio quality problems with the Blu-Ray sides. Extras were also quite entertaining. I especially enjoyed the commentary by Louis on almost every episode. He is a bit over-criticising at times, but his insight into the subject matter is very funny and even thought-provoking. There are a couple bloopers, but only a couple. All in all, loved it, buy it.
