Product Description

Get the inside information on the mammoth cruise ships as you laugh and cry through the autobiography of the woman who made it popular, Jeraldine Saunders, in "Love Boats "(revised and expanded version of "The Love Boats).
"This is the book that started the TV series, "The Love Boat," one of the most popular shows in history. That series was full of episodes of humor and pathos, but this book outdoes them all--the amazing stories here are true.
Over the years, Ms. Saunders became an international sensation, from being a model for designers such as Mr. Blackwell to accompanying famous stars to public events. She learned palmistry, graphology, numerology and astrology. Then she went to sea.
Jeraldine Saunders became the first female cruise director and held this position for a decade. She wrote her experiences in the first edition of this book and came up with the idea for the TV series. The new edition of "Love Boats "expands on the original, making it even better.
Read about her experiences:
-Mistaking a seaport for the name of a cabin creates a funny but frightful misunderstanding with Mario
-The disaster of the heat: 750 passengers, hot weather, and no soap
-Wild fights among the musicians--watch out for that flying plate!
-Tips about cruising to Mexico, South America, and the Caribbean, including her personal adventures
While the cruise industry has always been popular, this book has been credited with increasing the cruise business by 3,000 percent. Filled with photos of Ms. Saunders and other famous personalities, "Love Boats "gives you the chance to find out why going on cruises has become so popular, places you might like to visit, and her entire, amazing story. Get this book for a fun, delightful reading experience.

3.0 out of 5 stars What an interesting woman!, Sep 2 2005

I had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Sauders and getting a copy of her book. This is an interesting woman who has 'sailed' through many adventures - both on and off the water. She speaks of many of the 'hidden' stories of what happens on cruise ships. The book is written with warm honesty, a quick wit and a great sense of humor.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dated, but Honest, April 16 2008
By Jeffrey Clinard "Jeffrey" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Love Boats (Paperback)
Ms. Saunders is a really good con artist, as she writes in her first chapter. She conned her way into a high fashion modeling career, then into being a cruise ship hostess. Despite her admitted ability to spell or write, she conned her way into getting this book out. But that doesn't make the book less fun. She may have a ghostwriter or serious editor, but her stories are either real, or a con that gave her fame.

Part travelogue, part sales pitch, part autobiographic, her book of the times told all about the life of cruise ships cruising, particularly the crew and passengers on the make. Given the period she writes about (the late 60s and early 70s, before herpes and aids), she's probably truthful about most of the stories about the era of the sexual revolution. They are fun, and her data about the ports of call and life as a cruise ship hostess and cruise directors are probably mostly true.

Still, even if I don't believe all of her stories because of her self-admitted history as a con artist, they were good enough to get her book published, then turned into a TV show, and earned every penny she made by exploding the cruise ship vacation industry.

I've been on over ten cruises, and loved every minute of them (except on my second cruise, where I declined to take seasickness antidotes, and suffered accordingly for a few hours). They aren't like the way Ms. Saunders described, but it was a different era. The sexual revolution was over, herpes and aids killed free sex.

Still, even if half the stories she has are cons, and the travel information outdated, you'll wish it was all true. Plus, you will love travel at sea - it may not be the Love Boat, but it's one great vacation.
