From Amazon.com

Writer/director Michael Landon Jr. continues in his famous father's footsteps by creating moral family entertainment set in the early days of the American prairie. Stubborn Marty Claridge (Katherine Heigl, Grey's Anatomy) travels west with her new husband--but after they find a beautiful patch of land, her husband dies in an accident before they've even started building. A man named Clark (Dale Midkiff, Air Bud: World Pup) makes a proposal: If Marty will enter into a platonic marriage with him, he'll pay for her passage back east in the spring. What Clark needs is a mother, however temporary, for his willful tomboy daughter Missie (Skye McCole Bartusiak, Beyond the Prairie, Part 2). Missie fights Marty's presence fiercely while Clark, though supportive, speaks few words, and Marty suspects she's made a terrible mistake--but time reveals otherwise. Love Comes Softly, based on the popular Christian novel by Janette Oke, is a romance, but Landon carefully avoids any bodice-ripping histrionics. Problems get solved perhaps a little too easily, but the movie is cleanly written, pleasantly understated, and respectful to its characters. For many viewers, Love Comes Softly will be a welcome change from overheated secular love stories. --Bret Fetzer

Whenever you see the words "based on" you know the film isn't going to follow the original story...as proves the case in this series. Actually, this one is the more true to the stories than the others. I don't usually like films that are "based on" - particularly if I have loved the original stories - but I did enjoy this series directed by Michael Landon Jr. If you can accept these aren't the stories of the books written by Christian author Janette Oke, they are an enjoyable set of films of love & faith to watch in their own right.

In this film:
Marty comes west with her husband Aaron Claridge. A tragic accident leaves her a widow expecting her first child & no where to live. Clark Davis is a widower with with a 10yr old daughter, Missie. He suggests a marriage of convenience - she would have a roof over her head for the winter until she can get the wagon train home in the spring, & his daughter would have a woman's influence in her life.
Marty struggles as she deals with life on a farm, grieving her first husband, & dealing with a difficult Missie who's still grieving the loss of her mother. Gradually she learns to love the place, Missie...& Clark, & finds that when spring arrives, she doesn't want to leave.

Buy the Series:

Love Comes Softly Series, Vol. 2 - Love's Abiding Joy, Love's Unending Legacy, Love's Unfolding Dream.

5.0 out of 5 stars love comes softly, Sep 12 2010
This review is from: Love Comes Softly (DVD)
This one being the first was what made me buy the complete collection, when you see this one you are already wanting to see the next, even the neighbours have borrowed it, although you will need a box of tissues. The set is something that i can and will watch over and over again. The only downside that i found is that there is a big jump between each one, ie one minute there is one child and in the next they might have three but they have grown so much, so you end up missing a big part which would have been nice to see. I also found it better to print of the order in which to watch them and write a number in the top corner, that way you are able to follow the storyline easier.
But apart from the one downside (the jump in between each being so big)i really loved watching it, even my 11 year old daughter couldn't wait to watch the next one with me, it also gave her lesson on how lucky she is compared to what the children had to play with etc in those day's as well as the large amount of repect that they had for their parents and others, it was a real eye opener for her.
