Product Description

Product Description

This is the story of Melody Paradise. You'll like her -- everybody does. Women aspire to be like her and men fall in love with her. Melody is kind, spiritual and very beautiful. She's also on a mission... and nothing is going to stand in her way.

The travelling community to which she belongs has become horribly fragmented by a series of mysterious and chaotic happenings. Her mission is to reunite them. She organizes a festival as the perfect vehicle to bring them together, during which an amazing story unfolds, often funny, sometimes sad, always compelling... and with a twist in the tail. Through the words and eyes of Martin Millar the reluctant guest novelist at Melody's festival we become privileged observers of a world most of us would struggle to even imagine.

5.0 out of 5 stars For anyone who likes to laugh, Mar 27 2002

I was given this book during my travels in Europe. The title scared me off quite a bit. But boredom on trains drove me to reading it. Am I ever glad I did. It was hilarious! I couldn't put it down. When I was finished I read it again. This book is written for everyone. Easy to read funny ,and endearing. You find yourself rooting for your favorite of Melodys many suitors, and booing the ones you dislike. It is just an all around fun book !

5.0 out of 5 stars Martin Millar when is the next one out?, Jun 23 2000

After reading this novel you would wish to encounter someone like Melody Paradise. Superb in every way, I couldn't put the damn thing down and there is nothing better than a happy ending. I went to see one of Martin's readings and he was better up close and personal. For ages after I couldn't get the book out of my mind...I hope there is another Millar book on it's way IMP Fiction!

Martin draws you into Melody's world with his sarcastic wit and laid-back way of weaving a tale. No other writer could blend ancient Greek mythology, unicorns, modern hippies, punk rockers, and a circus all into one hilarious yet touching tale. The story is centered around the beautiful new-age hippie chick Melody Paradise and her obsession with the Wishing Tree. More than one time I was startled from Melody's world by loud laughter, only to realize I was alone and the laughter was coming from me. If you have never read Martin Millar, this is a wonderful book to get you hooked.
